Though he may struggle to walk around these days, that didn’t stop one 90-year-old Sichuan man from leaping into an icy river to save a little boy’s life.

The 19-month-old kid accidentally fell into the small river in Santai county last week while riding his bicycle. Hearing his cries for help, He Youyi rushed over as fast as he could and threw himself into the water.

He was able to help get the little boy to dry land. Later, more villagers arrived to pull He back up the river bank as well.

“I only did what I could. If I die it’s not a big deal, but such a thing should not happen to a child,” the 90-year-old man told the kid’s mom before slowly walking away.
