Recently, a man in Chongqing lost his pet rabbit and called the cops, hoping that they could help him find it. Well, find the bunny they did, but, by then, it was already too late.

Using surveillance video footage, officers were able to track the animal to a neighbor’s home. Inside they found an auntie surnamed Wu in the process of cooking up some rabbit stew. Despite the bunny having only gone missing a few hours before, Wu had already killed the man’s pet, skinned it, and stuffed it into a pot. According to The Paper, Wu claimed that she thought the creature had been bought by a family member as a snack.

The rabbit owner, surnamed Liu, said, sadly, that the bunny had been very dear to both him and his son. By taking the animal out for walks, Liu’s son had managed to lose 25 kg.

In the end, Wu agreed to compensate Liu for the rabbit, paying him 1,800 yuan. Liu said that he doesn’t plan to tell his son about the bunny’s untimely demise. Meanwhile, no word on how the rabbit tasted.
