This is getting silly! We are indeed talking about the word ’about’ – but not as it’s usually used.

听起来有点傻了哈！我们确实要谈论“关于”这个词——但不是它通常的用法。

Indeed. Let’s demonstrate. Is Mark about today?

确实。让我们来示范一下吧。马克今天在这儿吗？

Yes, I saw him this morning.

对，我今天早上看见他了。

So – when I asked: "Is Mark about today?" I wasn’t asking if Mark was somehow related to the concept of ’today’ I just meant ’Is Mark here’?

所以，当我问：“马克今天在这儿吗？”我不是在问马克是不是和“今天”这个概念有什么关系，我只是在说“马克在吗”？

About’ means ’here’, or ’somewhere near here’.

“关于”这个词在这儿的意思就是“这里”，或者“这附近的某个地方”。

Mark’s about. Mark’s near here. By the way, who’s Mark?

马克在这里。马克在附近。顺便问一句，马克是谁呀？

No idea. But I know he’s near here!

不知道。但我知道他在附近！

Well, that’s reassuring. Time for some more examples about ’about’.

Hi, is Sue about? Just need to give her some files.

嗨，苏在吗？有一些文件要给她。

Will you be about this evening? I want to ask a big favour.

你今晚在这里吗？我想请你帮个大忙。

There’s no one about. It’s a bit scary.

Don’t talk like that. There are children about.

别这样说话。还有孩子在这儿呢。

There we are. About’ meaning in or close to an area.

好了。这个词的意思是在某个地方或者靠近某个地方。

You know, there’s another word that behaves like this.

你知道的，有另外一个词和这个词很像。

You’re talking about… ’around’!

你是说……“周围”！

Indeed. We could say: "Is Mark around?"

对。我们可以问：“马克在吗”？

And we know the answer to that: you saw him this morning.

并且我们知道答案：你今早看见他了。

Except… I didn’t really see him.Because Mark doesn’t exist…

除非……我并没有真的看到他。因为马克并不存在……

Ah, Mark!

啊，马克！

We were just talking about you!

我们这在谈论你呢！

We were just talking about ’about’.
