About the Exhibition
八大画廊很荣幸地宣布即将呈现郭典的最新个展“演出”，展期从2021年12月11日至2022年1月30日。这是郭典延续上个展览从80后的成长背景来输出他对人性在生活中展现出的观察与思考。
此次展览郭典继续以轻松的视角，呈现社会中各类场景中人的“表演”，而构成一出出“演出”作品。
常往返于美国与中国两地的生活，让他对生活中发生的冲突现象更为敏感。各行各业的朋友，因职业不同呈现出的不同状态，成了艺术家观察他们对事物不同理解的途径。作品中简约块面的处理，是刻意简化观者对作品在视觉上的理解难度，呈现出所看即所得的视觉逻辑。
他的作品是结合自身的经历，对周边发生的事情将自己从中抽离，以旁观者的视角，呈现出当代生活和社会的一个个切面，并在作品中隐含着对这些现象的态度，最终以一起起演出的形式呈现给观者，由观者自身去得出个人的见解与答案。
如作品《起源》对经典文化IP的思考：米老鼠是我们儿时记忆最深刻的一个卡通形象之一，是美国对中国的一种文化输出，也可以看成是一种侵略，但在艺术家眼里这类经典IP能被重复使用多久，呈现出来的价值又与使用者有多大的关系呢？因此作品中只是呈现了米老鼠被围观的场景，被围观之后的思考则交给观者自身。又如作品《换脸》是对当下网络时代下个人IP的一种观察：每个平台都在努力打造一个个红人，借由网络每个人也变成了ip，然而这些ip的价值几何？还是这也是被流量挟持下而呈现的“人性表演”？
每件作品之间不紧密的联系，凸显出场景与场景之间的不和谐，以此放大人类社会在不同欲望与利益驱动下所呈现出的荒诞。由此让你带着艺术家的视角，旁观各类人生活的瞬间，去体会艺术家视角中所观察到的冲突与荒诞，而此得到微微一笑，还是讽刺观感，抑或是对什么是正常社会状态的思考，皆是观者自身在看“演出“后的反应。而你又将得到什么样的反应呢？期待一起到八大画廊体会一番。

Pata Gallery is pleased to announce Guo Dian's brand new solo exhibition, The Show, which runs from December 11 , 2021 to January 30, 2022. It is a continuation of Guo Dian's previous exhibition which has introduced unusual perspectives upon the most ordinary scenes in life, and thus output the artist’s observations and thoughts on human nature displayed in society life based on his growing background of the post-80s generation. In this exhibition, Guo Dian continues to focus on the "performances" of people in various society scenes that constitute a “show” for the viewers in a lighthearted perspective.
Commuting between the United States and China has made the artist more sensitive to conflicts in life. The different living status of his friends from all walks of life becomes an entranceway for him to observe and perceive their understandings of things. Following the visual logic of “what you see is what you get”, he deliberately lowers the visual interpretation difficulty for the audience by using simply blocks and surfaces in his works.
In combination with his own life experience, he separates himself from things happening around him and presents the aspects of contemporary life and society from a bystander's perspective, and finally reveals them to the audience in the form of shows and performances with hidden implication of his attitude towards these phenomena, leaving the audience to come up with their own opinions and answers.
Take his reflection on classic cultural IPs in “Origin” and “2020” as an example: Mickey Mouse is one of the cartoon images most remembered in our childhood. It is a kind of cultural export from the United States to China which may also be regarded as a kind of cultural invasion. However, in the eyes of artists, how much does it matter that how long can this kind of classic IPs be reused or what values have they introduced? Therefore, the artist creates a scene of Mickey Mouse being surrounded by onlookers, leaving the viewers thinking independently for themselves. Another example is the “Face Change” which is his observation of personal IP in the era of internet: every internet platform is trying to create celebrities of its own. Through the web, individuals have become IPs. However, what is the value of these IPs? Or are they also merely a "human show" held hostage by Internet traffic?
The loose connection between each work of his highlights the disharmony and inconsistency between scenes, thus amplifying the absurdity of human society driven by desires and interests, allowing the viewers to observe the moments of life of various people from the perspective of the artist and feel the conflicts and absurdity observed by the artist’s eyes. As for how will the viewers react after watching "Perform", whether they will have a smile, a sarcastic impression, or get inspired to think about "what is a normal social state", are all up to the viewers themselves. 郭典，1986年生于四川成都，
本科毕业于电子科技大学成都学院图形艺术系。

Guo Dian, born in Chengdu, Sichuan in 1986, now lives and works in Chengdu. He graduated from Chengdu university of science and technology of the graphic arts Department in 2009.
