新型冠状病毒主要通过飞沫传播和接触传播。电梯是密闭狭小的环境,如果与病毒携带者同乘电梯,可能会被其咳嗽、喷嚏、讲话带来的飞沫感染;

(1)任何时候都认真洗手,或带一瓶酒精免洗洗手液;

(2)尽量不碰可疑的东西;

(3)丢垃圾时,如果一定要掀垃圾盖,最好戴上一次性手套;

Tips for living in novel coronavirus-infected communities (Part 1)

1.Does taking an elevator pose a risk of possible transmission of the infection?

Yes, it does. But the risk is preventable.

The nCov is mainly spread through droplets and contact. You have a higher chance of getting infected via the droplets from the coughing, sneezing or talking of a virus-carrier in the elevator since the space is small and enclosed. When the droplets fall onto the buttons or the wall, one can get infected by touching their mouth, nose or eyes after coming into contact with those contaminated surfaces.

Please wear a mask in the elevator and avoid touching your face with your hands. Wash your hands immediately when arriving home.

2.What about the stair handrails or other public facilities in the community?

Yes, they pose a risk of infection as well because viruses can be attached to the surfaces of those facilities and then transmitted to other people by direct contact.

Do not touch those things and avoid touching your nose, mouth or eyes and wash your hands as soon as possible after any necessary contact.

3.Is it still safe to use a public toilet if confirmed cases of the nCov have been identified in the neighborhood?

Yes, normally it is safe but you have to be more careful.

Please guard against any contact risks in the public toilets by washing your hands and disinfecting your clothes properly and any droplet transmission risks by wearing a mask.

4. Is the household waste disposed of by the people with suspected or confirmed cases a source of infection?

Yes, it could be, but not likely.

Suggestions:

Wash your hands properly at all times or take an alcohol-based sanitizer with you;

Avoid touching anything suspicious;

Wear disposable gloves if you have to lift the dustbin lid with your hands;

Put the used masks in sealed bags and dispose of them as hazardous waste.

(1)合适温度(56-75°C)和时间(30-90分钟)的烘干机;

(2)用紫外线灯照60分钟;

(3)含氯消毒液浸泡5分钟;

(4)窗外自然环境通风3天;

Tips for living in novel coronavirus-infected communities (Part 2)

1. How many days could the novel coronavirus stay alive outside the human body?

Studies have found that the virus can remain active for several hours on smooth surfaces such as door handles and elevator buttons. With appropriate temperature and humidity, it may survive for several days. So it is important to wash your hands.

2. Is it possible that the virus sticks to quilts airing on a sunny day?

No, it isn’t. Studies have shown that sunlight can help reduce the activity and     survival time of the virus under dry and hot conditions with good airflow accompanied by ultraviolet light.

3.Why should we keep rooms well ventilated? Will the viruses find their way into the house through airborne dust?

Increased ventilation lowers the concentration of viruses in the indoor air while the concentration of viruses outdoors is in itself relatively low as the viruses are exposed to ultraviolet light in a large and open space.

4. How should I disinfect my clothes at home after going outside?

If you do not contact people exposed to the novel coronavirus, you can change your clothes at appropriate intervals. For extra precautions, you can use alcohol spray to sanitize coats. If not available, use any alcoholic drinks with an ABV between 70%-75%.

5. Are there any other ways to sanitize laundry?

Alternative ways of disinfecting clothes based on information on the SARS virus are as follows:

(1) Put into a dryer at a temperature between 56-75℃ for 30-90 minutes;

(2) Get exposed to an ultraviolet lamp for 60 minutes;

(3) Soak in chlorine disinfectant for 5 minutes;

(4) Air for 3 days outdoors;

(5) Hang-dry in the sunshine for more than 60 minutes.
