Cover Story Sr-doped LaMnO3 (LSM) is one of the most classical cathode materials for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), but their instinct properties only feature atisfactory performance at high temperatures, which restricts their application for proton-conducting SOFCs (H-SOFCs) that could work at intermediate temperatures. Exploring the strategy of re-using LSM-based cathodes for H-SOFCs is highly desirable and challenging. Bi et al. use Zn ions to tailor traditional LSM and obtain a new material (Zn and Sr co-doped LaMnO3 (LSMZn)). The improved hydration ability of LSMZn leads to facile transportation of protons and thus enables high performance for the LSMZn-based cell, revealing a suitable strategy to bring back LSM based cathodes to the H-SOFCs community (see the article on page 675).
