That winter was extremely cold.

The damp rain mantled the whole city.
整个城市笼罩在阴湿的雨里。
Gray sky, and no sunshine.
灰蒙蒙的天空，迟迟见不着阳光，
Inexplicably depressed.
让人感到莫名的沮丧，
Sometimes, tears just can't help trickling down
while walking on the street…
常常走在街上就有一种落泪的冲动…
In the same apartment building…

She lives in an old apartment in the city suburb.
她住在城市郊区的一栋旧公寓大楼里，
Every time, wherever she goes, she is used to turning left.
每次出门，不管去哪里，总是习惯性的先向左走。

《向左走，向右走》，一个发生在城市，只可能发生在城市的、关于追寻的故事。
几米以一种淡淡的、幽默的笔调缓缓述说，在故事情节与画面中制造城市生活的各种巧合，让人在阅读时感到既熟悉又惊讶，不自觉发出会心一笑……
几米，男，台北市人。天蝎座、吃素、已婚、有一个女儿，文化大学美术系毕业，曾在广告公司工作十二年，现在在家工作，为报纸、杂志等各种出版品画插画。1998年开始首次的绘本创作，即让"图像"成为另一种清新舒洁的文学语言，在他的作品里营造出流畅诗意的画面，散发出深情迷人的风采。几米的作品广受欢迎，原因有三：一是它充满都市感，一些人们非常熟悉、但敢想不敢言的感觉；二是它的图画细致得使人爱不释手，图为主、字为辅的形式很新鲜；三是它的故事简直是一个寓言，从前只有写给小孩的图画书，现在成人也有了自己的寓言和童话。
