You are cordially invited to the 107th seminar of Long Feng Science Forum Seminar Series. It will be delivered by Prof. Kazuo Tanaka (Kyoto University) at 3:00 pm on January 9 (Tuesday). This seminar will discuss "Rational Design for Stimuli-Responsive Luminochromic Materials Based on Aggregation-Induced Emission-Active Complexes".

Abstract: 

We have discovered that some of boron complexes can show poor luminescence in solution but aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties. According to quantum calculation, it was proposed that these complexes should potentially show large degree of structural relaxation in the excited state. Based on this fact, we named these complexes as an excitation-driven complexes. By using excitation-driven complexes as a monomer, various types of AIE-active and stimuli-responsive polymeric materials have been developed. In this presentation, recent progresses of the stimuli-responsive luminescent materials with excitation-driven boron complexes will be demonstrated. In particular, we mention the regulation of luminescent properties by the external stimulus in the film. The mechanisms and design strategies will be explained in the presentation.




Biography

Kazuo Tanaka received his Ph.D. degree in 2004 from Kyoto University, and worked in Stanford University, USA, Kyoto University, and RIKEN as a postdoctoral fellow. In 2007, he has moved to the Department of Polymer Chemistry, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University, and in 2018, he was promoted to Professor. His research projects especially focus on design of new functional materials relating optics and nanotechnology based on the heteroatom-containing conjugated polymers and organic-inorganic polymer hybrids.
