Farah Sun: Physics and Family 孙发拉: 物理和家庭

In this week’s teacher profile, we talk to Farah Sun. Farah is our Head of Science and has been at Yew Chung International School of Beijing for five years. 

在本周的教师档案中，我们采访了孙发拉。发拉已经在北京耀中国际学校工作了五年，是我们的科学总监。

Please introduce yourself

I’m Farah Sun. I am originally from Manchester, but I don’t really have the accent anymore as I’ve spent so much time abroad! I first moved to China 13 years ago for a Physics teaching post in Tianjin. 

请介绍一下你自己

我是孙发拉，原本来自曼彻斯特，但在国外度过了这么长时间，我不再有口音了！我13年前来到中国，在天津做物理教学。

I met my husband in Tianjin. After marrying, we relocated to Beijing. I joined YCIS Beijing as a physics teacher and absolutely loved the atmosphere and culture. Five years on, and my little boy Kaysan is about to start in kindergarten!

我在天津遇到了我的丈夫。结婚后，我们举家搬到北京。起初，我作为物理老师加入北京耀中，我非常喜欢这里的气氛和文化。五年后，我的小孩Kaysan也即将在北京耀中读幼儿园！

What makes science special at YCIS Beijing?

We have a unique approach to the curriculum. Between years 6 to 8, we teach all our subjects according to the same concepts (e.g. sustainability & environment, tradition & culture, identity & perspectives). It means that children can draw similarities between disciplines, and understand the importance of subjects from a broader perspective. 

是什么使北京耀中的科学课程独具特色？

我们有独特的课程设置方法。在6-8年级，我们会根据同一主题（例如：可持续性与环境、传统与文化、身份与视角）教授我们的所有科目。这意味着孩子们可以在学科之间理解相似之处并融会贯通，从更广泛的视角理解学科的重要性。
