The Art of Poetry: Secondary Coffeehouse 诗歌艺术：中学部咖啡馆阅读活动
Every year, Secondary students and staff at YCIS Beijing celebrate National Poetry Week with the Coffeehouse Poetry Reading.
北京耀中中学部学生和教职员工每年都会举办咖啡馆诗歌阅读活动来庆祝国家诗歌周。
The reading is also the culmination of the Identity and Perspectives topic, during which students are encouraged to explore themselves through the medium of poetry.
阅读活动将身份与观点主题活动推向高潮，在此期间我们鼓励学生通过诗歌来探索自己。
We speak to Head of English, Ms Rebecca Flavin, about the event.

Please explain the Coffeehouse event

Students have been reading and discussing works by well-known poets and writing their own poems in class. For the Coffeehouse, students and teachers selected some of their favourite poets to perform.
学生们在活动期间阅读和讨论著名诗人的作品，并在课堂上自己创作诗歌。在咖啡馆，师生们挑选最喜欢的诗人与大家分享。
How were EAL students incorporated into the event?
英语作为非母语的学生如何参加活动？
Giving EAL students a chance to share and perform their poetry is an important aspect of the Coffeehouse.
让英语作为非母语的学生有机会分享和展现他们的诗歌是咖啡馆活动的一个重要方面。
We spent several weeks working on our poems, meaning that our EAL students had time to produce a work that they were proud of and happy to share.
我们给孩子们几个星期的时间来准备他们的诗歌，这意味着我们的英语作为非母语的学生有充足的时间创作他们引以为傲的作品，并乐于分享。
In taking part in this event, I hope that our EAL students felt welcomed by their peers and also recognised that they, too, have the ability to produce a fantastic piece of meaningful verse.
我希望英语作为非母语的学生在本次活动中能够受到其他同学的欢迎，同时也让他们认识到他们也有能力创作出有意义的精彩诗句。
What made the event special for you?

Many of the teachers commented on how the EAL performers were some of the strongest. They were dramatic and thoughtful when they read, and it was a pleasure to listen to their work and celebrate their courage and success.
许多老师就英语作为非母语的学生在本次活动中的突出表现发表了自己的观点：当这些孩子朗诵他们的诗歌时，展现出了很强的表现力和亲和力，聆听他们的作品使人愉悦。我为他们的勇气和成功感到欣慰。
