Short Film - Student Blog
Year 9 Media Studies student Isabella-Maria Schmid discusses her love of media and film.
What made you decide to sign up for this media class?
It started in Year 7 when I helped direct, film, and edit a short comedy film for my homeroom. We showed it during assembly and it was then that I realised how much I enjoyed filming and editing. After that, I was always the one that was asked to create films. At the end of Year 8, I immediately chose Media Studies because I wanted to learn more about filming and how to improve my editing.
Tell us a little bit about your short movie.
My short film is about a girl who lives in a world where everybody wears masks. Throughout the film the girl wonders what it would be like if she took off her mask, and at the end of the film, she finally takes the mask off.
Is there anything you hoped the audience would learn from watching this film?
The masks are a metaphor for covering up your identity. I feel like in today's society people cover up their true identities. I want people to realise that it's okay to "take off their mask”; people will accept you for who you are, and people will like you because you are being yourself and not someone else.
