Wonder Sea 出海部 - What'll U Do If I Die Tomorrow

Beijing post rock outfit Wonder Sea have long been operating on the fringes of the scene - seesawing between emo-inflicted indie rock and sincere instrumental rock - intimate and sprawling all at once. Their latest effort What'll U Do If I Die Tomorrow is perhaps their strongest and heaviest yet - six tracks built upon various raw synth loops that sees the band both widening and honing in their sound. With most of the tracks hovering around the five-minute mark, it’s amazing how fresh it all sounds - and how much fraught emotional tension they still manage to instill into every song.

Kinkorgaxm - Pain Goes Never End

Brooding cold wave with a nervy post punk attitude, Kinkorgaxm accomplishes a hell of a lot with a MIDI keyboard and a computer. ‘Addicted to repetitive, monotonous bass melodies’- the Beijing-based musician, a fixture of the underground scene for years, waxes dead-eyed melodies across looping synths on his debut Pain Goes Never End, released with Spacefruity Records. There’s a raw theatricality to Kink’s delivery - a sincere reverence for the tinted black sandbox he’s playing in - all of which helps sell the musician’s bleak worldview. When he croons ‘cancel the love song’ we believe it.

Trash Panda - Bigfoot 

Dumpster rock purveyors Trash Panda, whose ‘take no prisoners’ sets of riotous punk tunes has left countless ears ringing in Shanghai, continue on their path of destruction with Bigfoot - the band’s debut EP. Three tracks of unadulterated rock and roll - fusing grunge, pop punk, garage and my favorite, ‘Ramonescore’ with reckless abandon, it's a rip-roaring guttural good time. It’s moody angst beaten down into disdain and recognition, there’s a scrappy working-class demeanor to the band’s sound - one that surprisingly resonates.
