Two years back, Xinxiang post punk band The Fallacy invited experimental saxophonist Li Zenghui into the fray, pulling back on the refined synthesizer veneer and English vocals of their earlier work. And while their first album together, See You On The Other Side Of Darkness, saw the band beginning to shed their skin, their latest, aptly titled The Fallacy, finds the band making good on that promise. Li Zenghui’s presence isn’t just decorative here - instead of being a melodic add-on he acts more as an apparition - an abstract accomplice to the album's moodier theatrics. Starker in its edges yet unrestrained in its temperament - The Fallacy has released their finest work to date.

Garage rockers No Parking, formed in the half-life of the garage revival of the early 00s, make a pretty good argument for its return with their hearty, hefty, and easily digestible debut The 3rd Rome. Hailing from Guangzhou, the band slices together a slew of elements - from surf rock to post punk - and touches on everything from the war in Ukraine to one’s disdain for being stuck in a KTV room. It may evoke countless bands both here and aboard - but it’s hard to deny the fun had (and the chops to back it up) within their sound palette.

Leaning into the rawer electronic elements of the genre, post punk outfit The Third Toe, out of Shanghai, finds satirical buoyancy among its simmering synths, steady bass, and charging drum beats on their debut 河北师傅掉了. Traversing the plights, both physical and mental, of Chinese society with cryptic poetic pose, and using minimal techno as its framework, there’s a blunt anthemic drive to the cold wave-inflected world The Third Toe inhibits.
