A Fishy Tale 有话 - As The Words Drop 话音刚落

Much in the vein of fellow Hangzhou psych explorers Railway Suicide Train and YePeng (Shen Zhi of those acts as producer and fellow musician here) - A Fishy Tale, out of Guangzhou don’t so much shed their indie shoegaze roots as subvert them, dragging them into a neo-psychedelic world - one that spans elements of alt rock, folk, krautrock, world music, and more. While bookended by tracks of supple tranquility, the meat of the band’s debut EP, As The Words Drop, crackles with a malignant energy, one that takes hold of your psyche. As the band states, ‘every raindrop has a thunderous sound,’ - prepare to get soaked.

The Wild Cooperative 野外合作社 - Homeless

Nanjing indie rock outfit, Field Cooperative, have racked up one award after another over the past few years (including the Abi Deer Music Award Rock and Roll award) for their sprawling, rustic blues-ridden, psychedelic-fueled poetic realism. For their latest album Homeless (their first since their definitive Typhoon台风 dropped five years prior), the band took inspiration from the chants of Hazaragi singers in a Youtube video and ran with it, leaning into their instrumental rock chops - orchestrating a epic, cosmic opus that takes elements of world music, electronica, and prog. Evoking everything from Yes, Jeff Beck, and of course, Pink Floyd, to even the soundtrack work of Encino Morricone and Wim Wenders, it’s grandiose stuff.

Instinkto Industrio 本能實業 – Blackout of the Century 世纪大停电

Led by Bokai, the former singer of Kunming punk outfit Plastic, and featuring members of psychobilly band The Lighthouse Stranger, Instinkto Industrio combines rustic hard-edged yet poetic lyricism with a cabaret rock and roll veneer - a collection of anthems that zeroes in on the complexities of modern day society. Held afloat by the boisterous yet delicate interplay between its flute, accordion, and double bass (holding down the rhythm for the drummerless outfit) and hoisted by Bokai’s hoarse voice, often-humorous street jargon and weathered guitar, the band comes across as a Soviet-era pub act, striking discord and resonance through its lively anthems. 

由前昆明朋克乐队“塑料”的主唱 Bokai 领衔，成员还包括迷幻乐队灯塔异客的乐手，“本能實業”将乡村硬朗而诗意的情感内核与卡巴莱摇滚的外壳结合，形成一本专注于现代社会复杂性的赞歌集。长笛、手风琴和低音提琴（在无鼓乐队中控制节奏）之间喧闹又微妙的相互作用让乐队能够浮于半空，Bokai 沙哑的嗓音、不时幽默的街头行话和饱经风霜的吉他又使其进一步被抬高，给人留下一种苏联时代酒吧乐队的印象，通过演奏活泼的赞歌引起不谐和共感。
