EDUCATION FOR THE FUTURE is the mission for Hailiang Foreign Language School. Since itsestablishment in 1995, Hailiang Foreign Language School's mission has been "to build a future-oriented world education system based on the future developmental needs of students, to help every child tohave opportunities and gain self-confidence, so that they can carry the excellent qualities of Chinese people to the world, adapt to the developmental norms of the new world, and have a vision for thefuture in order to live a happy and fruitful life of their dreams inthe future that they create.
International-mindedness is embedded within the mission of Hailiang Foreign Language School.
为了建立面向未来的世界教育体系，我们需要确保我们的教育能让学生迎接日益相互关联与全球一体化的世界做好准备。
In order to build a future-oriented world education system, we must ensure that our education prepares students for an increasingly interconnected and globalized world.
为了让学生把中国人的优秀品质传递给世界，他们必须(1)了解自己的历史和文化，(2)发展必要的多语言交流技能，以便与世界各地的人交流。
In order for students to carry the excellent qualities of Chinese people to the world, they must (1) know their own history and culture, and (2) develop the multilingual communication skills necessary in order to communicate with othersfrom around the world.
为了适应新世界的发展规则，学生必须理解这个世界以及如何更好地融入世界。
In order to adapt to the developmental norms of the new world, students must have an understanding about the world and how they fit within this world.

International Mindedness

Why international-mindedness is so vitally important for our students? Students of today will be doing jobs that we cannot imagine now. The world is becoming increasingly globalized and transnational corporations are becoming the norm. Therefore, we need to prepare students for their careers which may often span several countries and may require them to adapt to different cultures and languages.
做到“为未来教育”，我们的学生不仅要学习和了解我们的祖国中国，而且要理解中国与世界的联系，这需要全球知识和国际视野。
In order to create EDUCATION FOR THE FUTURE, it is vital for our students to not only learn andunderstand our motherland China, but also they need to understand how China fits in with the rest of the world, which requires global knowledge and an international mindset.

Multilingualism

The concept of multilingualism is embedded within the very name of Hailiang Foreign Language School. HFLS aims to go beyond merely one additional language per student. Since its inception in 1995, HFLS has been committed to ensuring proficiency in foreign languages.

Over the past 24 years, HFLS has held classes in English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Russian and Mandarin Chinese through its HSK (Chinese Proficiency Exam) classes. At HFLS, students not only develop foreign languages but also maintain their‘mother-tongue'
Intercultural Understanding
跨文化理解鼓励学生批判性地欣赏自己和他人的观点(信仰、价值观、经验和认知方式)，学会尊重自己和他人的文化、语言和信仰。跨文化理解使学生学习和接触不同的文化，认识到它们的共性和差异，与他人建立联系，培养相互尊重。
Intercultural understanding encourages students to appreciate critically their own perspective(beliefs, values, experience and ways of knowing) as well as the perspectives of others. Intercultural understanding involves students engaging with diverse cultures in ways that recognise commonalities and differences, create connections with others and cultivate mutualrespect.”
在海亮外国语学校，我们通过“模拟联合国”(简称“模联“)来体现跨文化理解。在模拟联合国中，“学生能拓展不同领域的知识，如研究、公开演讲、辩论、写作技能、团队合作、批判性思维和领导能力”。
In HFLS, we exemplify Intercultural Understanding through the Model United Nations (MUN). In the MUN,“students participate in an educational simulation in which students develop different areas of knowledge, like researching, public speaking, debating, writing skills, teamwork,critical thinking and leadership abilities.”
同时，它也将学生置于另一个国家的角色中，每个参与者都必须作为不同国家的代表了解其语言、文化、历史和在世界上的角色。通过这样的方式，学生们可以深入地了解其他文化并对世界上不同国家面临的问题产生共鸣。
However, it also places students in the roles of another nation. Each participant must act as a representative of a different country, understanding its language, culture, history and role within the world. By doing so, students learn other cultures and empathize with the issues faced by different countries around the world.
Global Engagement
“把中华民族的优秀品质传播给世界”是海亮外语学校使命的重要组成部分。对于我们的学生来说，他们不仅学习自己国家的历史和文化，而且能够做到与来自世界各地的人们交流自己的想法与观点。
“Carrying the excellent qualities of Chinese people to the world” is a crucial part of the HFLS mission. It is very important for students to learn their own history and background and to be able to communicate their mindsets and viewpoints with others from around the world.

Global Engagement is about our students engaging with the world. Students are encouraged to engage with their global world, via information, resources, and their teachers. Every day, Hailiang Foreign Language School’s students get the opportunity to meet and interact with expat teachers and students from all around the world, including The United States, The United Kingdom, South Africa, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Serbia, Russia, India, Pakistan, Ghana, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Belarus, Canada, Egypt, Spain, Trinidad & Tobago, and many, many more.

Engaging with global issues can raise students' self-esteem, confidence, and belief in their own efficacy for creating positive change. Global engagement creates opportunities for students to practise skills in research, public-speaking, teamwork, negotiation, and writing. HFLS's students don’t have to leave the classroom to“go global.” Here, we bring the world to our students.

海亮外国语学校目前是IBDP（大学预科项目）候选学校。在最近一次由LynnWong主持的协作会议上，教师们一起探讨如何在教学中更好地培养学生的国际视野，让他们成为熟悉当地与全球事务的参与者。海外老师们总是在不断地提高，不断地变得更好，继续使海亮外国语学校成为我们能给孩子们最珍贵的礼物。
HFLS is currently a candidate school for the IBDP. In the most recent collaboration meeting led by Lynn Wong at HFLS, teachers discussed how to promote International Mindedness in their teaching and learning to foster students’greater awareness of local issues and global issues. Teachers always seeking to continuously improve, continuously get better, and continue to make HFLS the best gift that we can give our children.
Possess international mindedness from early childhood
这是一个全球化的时代，与我们生活相关的，不再仅限于本土本国。未来十几年，我们国家也将会有大量的国际人才涌入。自从互联网时代的到来，每个国家都不再是一个孤立的小岛，整个世界已经连接起了一个越来越紧密的大网。只有那些通晓国际规则、具有国际视野、能够参与国际竞争的国际化人才，才能拥有更大的发展平台。
All countries are closely connected to each other in an era of globalization and our country will have a large influx of international talents in the coming decades. Every country is no longer an isolated island since the advent of the Internet age, while the whole world has been connected in a closer network. Greater development platform is only for talents who know international rules, have international mindedness and embrace international competition.
