Located on the South American continent, Brazil is mostly tropical and has a very welcoming and diverse society. Brazil's ethnic composition is also very complex, with whites of European descent, blacks, Indians, and various mixed races of intermarriage forming a highly diverse social structure.

Luciano Cian was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and now lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's former capital. He started painting when he was 18 and now works as a digital printmaker, focusing on women and the diversity of Brazilian society.
卢西安诺·奇安出生于巴西圣保罗，现在生活与工作在巴西前首都——里约热内卢。18岁就接触油画的他，现在是一名数字版画画家，作品主要关注女性与巴西社会的多元文化。
The visual elements of Luciano Cian's work are very active. Simple lines outline the unique posture of women, and a few strokes depict the unique facial expressions of women. Large geometric color blocks are spread all over the women's skin and background, just like the diversity of different skin colors and cultures in Brazilian society, which is very striking.

In Luciano Cian's eyes, these lines describe the personality traits of modern women – strength, courage, and perseverance. It is also an exploration of the multi-cultural and multi-ethnic Brazilian society. Luciano Cian once said that the focus on female identity and the racial structure of society was inspired by Darcy Ribeiro, a Brazilian anthropologist.

When asked why he chose the female portrait as his subject, Luciano Cian says: “About being mostly women, it has to do with strength and details. Women are more interesting because it allows me to wear accessories, colors, different haircuts. I can do that on men too, obviously, but society's reading is different, basically because we're still sexist. And I believe that this kind of approach can help to combat these very Jurassic values.”

Luciano Cian wants audiences to discover the unique beauty of contemporary women in his work, and to understand that, despite our racial and gender differences, we are all equal in society.
