As the winter break winds down and the spring sun graces us again, a new semester dawns. After a rejuvenating and joyful holiday period, returning to school might spark a blend of excitement and anticipation for the adventures ahead. But it is also natural to feel a hint of nervousness as we prepare to tackle the challenges awaiting us.

 

Although feeling “anxious” is a common phenomenon, we inevitably struggle against it when we are under pressure. We may find it challenging to focus and enjoy the present moment as we constantly exhaust ourselves. When the long-term accumulation of this pressure starts to affect our daily lives and mental well-being, it is crucial to take action.


Now, let's dive into some practical techniques to develop coping strategies!

Acknowledge Your Feelings

Understanding and accepting your emotions is crucial in navigating college stress and anxiety. It is entirely normal to feel overwhelmed, whether it is fear, frustration, or exhaustion. Acknowledging these emotions as a part of your journey allows you to confront them with courage. Remember, feeling this way is completely normal.

Understand Your Anxiety

Take a moment to breathe and step back from your worries. Identifying the root causes of your anxiety, like peer pressure or a heavy workload, allows you to tackle the issue with practical solutions, rather than just dealing with its symptoms. For example, understanding that a heavy workload is a trigger for your anxiety could lead you to develop better time management strategies or seek support from teachers or peers.

Work-Life Balance

Make sure to dedicate time to activities that rejuvenate you, like jogging, meditation, or reading. Everyone's response to stress and relaxation techniques differs, so it is important to find what uniquely works for you, creating a personalized balance that promotes thriving, not just surviving.

Discussing your feelings and anxieties with friends or seeking professional help can be incredibly supportive. Such conversations can offer relief, provide new perspectives, and strengthen relationships. Remember, opening up about your struggles is a courageous step towards managing stress and finding peace.
