From Tsinghua to the world: stories of growth and dreams
As summer approaches, a group of international students will be graduating from Tsinghua University. Their experiences have been very unique, yet colorful and exciting. Let's dive into their stories together and experience the spirited youth of TsinghuaRen.

Shin Ni Chen
Malaysia, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences
“Cheers to four years! Congratulations on your achievements, and best wishes for a bright and successful future as you embark on this exciting new journey.”
During her time at Tsinghua University, Shin Ni discovered her potential through the institution’s resources and opportunities. As a pharmacy student, student journalist, competitive swimmer, and leader in various associations, she immersed herself in different fields and discovered her unique strengths. One of her most inspiring experiences was interning as a Tsinghua representative at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research in Melbourne, where she applied her academic knowledge to real-world projects. This experience reinforced her learning and provided career insights. Shin Ni is excited to continue her studies at Tsinghua, pursuing a PhD in Social and Administrative Pharmacy, and looks forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Faye Kerstin van Laak

During her time at Tsinghua University, Faye gained a wealth of knowledge in the field of international relations and had the opportunity to meet people from various countries and learn about their cultures and perspectives. One of her most memorable experiences was attending the World Youth Festival in Russia as part of the Chinese delegation, which deepened her understanding of Russia and further fueled her passion for international relations. She appreciated the rigorous academic environment at Tsinghua, which challenged her to think critically and engage deeply with complex global issues. These experiences at Tsinghua inspired Faye to work in international organizations such as the United Nations in the future.

During her time at Tsinghua University, Dorothy gained a profound appreciation for academic discipline and innovative research. Exposure to a diverse student body broadened her perspectives, and working with some of the brightest minds was incredibly motivating and enriching. A memorable part of her studies was engaging in classes that allowed her to work on diverse projects with teams from different backgrounds. These experiences left a lasting impression, demonstrating the richness of collaborative learning and the value of different perspectives in solving challenges. After graduation, Dorothy plans to pursue a master's degree to deepen her expertise and then enter the workforce, aiming to contribute innovative solutions and positively impact her profession.

Adrian’s studies at Tsinghua University were a journey full of excitement and unforgettable moments. During his time at the university, he learned to be an emcee through “Baiyang” program, honed his public speaking and soft skills at the Global Communication Office, forged lasting friendships and gained knowledge while preparing for his final thesis. The experience of serving as an emcee for a Gala Night, captivating thousands of audience members from the stage, remains vivid in his memory. After graduation, he plans to further his studies in the UK, with aspirations of participating in the political system or pursuing a second master’s degree in the future. He is grateful for the exceptional platforms and opportunities provided by Tsinghua University, which have fostered his growth and enriched his experiences, and will always take pride in being a TsinghuaRen.

Minjin Borgil

“Studying with highly accomplished peers can be daunting, but instead of comparing yourself to others, focus on learning from them and building friendships. In time, you will find yourself growing and excelling alongside them.”
Minjin’s time at Tsinghua has been incredibly enriching. It has broadened her perspective on the world and taught her the importance of self-discipline and responsibility, even in the face of challenges. Studying alongside some of China's top students, she learned to navigate in a highly competitive environment and to find solutions to difficult problems. One of her most unforgettable experiences was representing Mongolia in an event organized by SCO Youth Exchange Center in Yunnan. Participating in various cultural activities with international students was fascinating as it has broadened her understanding of different cultures. After graduation, she plans to pursue a master’s degree in China to gain further experience.
