This work provides new insights into the fluorescence mechanism in R-CDs, guiding the development of novel high-performance R-CDs from non-aromatic precursors. It provides new reference for establishing a controllable preparation method for R-CDs, as well as reference for the fluorescence analysis of other types of CDs. The cover image shows the process of evolution from non-conjugated organic small molecules to large conjugated molecules, and further polymerization and carbonization to generate R-CDs (see the article by Xin Yang et al. on page 1450; artwork by Xue Zhang).
