Why a Second Life Market?
为什么要举办再生市集？
The goal of the Yunnan Second Life Market is to give a second chance to used items and materials, to raise awareness of second-hand shopping and to promote waste reduction. Our first event will be held in Kunming on 1 October 2021 from 10am to 8pm.
Every single thing that we have bought or used has a footprint on our planet. This market puts into practice the common phrase for sustainable living: refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle. At the event, you can refuse and reduce buying new things, reuse things that already exists in the world and even recycle materials to create useful products at DIY workshops.
At the market, we will be selling small household items such as clothes, shoes, accessories, books, home décor etc. One of the biggest environmental impacts is caused by the hyper-consumerism in our society today, where we make lots of impulse and unnecessary purchases at the click of a button.
To take an example of the impact of the things we use, let’s focus on the clothes we wear. The textile industry causes 1.2 billion tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year, which is more than the combined number of international flights and shipping. Just from this industry alone, non-renewable resources of around 100 million tons a year are consumed for the production of synthetic fibers, fertilizers for cotton production, dyes, and chemicals for textiles. In addition, 20% of global industrial water pollution is caused by the dyeing and treatment of textiles.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg. Take a look at what you are wearing now. Did you know that the water consumed to produce a single white cotton shirt is equivalent to an individual’s drinking water for 3.5 years, while the water used to produce a pair of jeans is enough for 10 years?
These astounding facts should make us think twice about clicking that button the next time we want to buy. Join us as a vendor to give a second life to the used items and materials or come to buy pre-loved second-hand items instead of new items – you never know what treasures you might find! There will also be DIY workshops using recycled materials and a talk on sustainable living.

云南再生市集的目标是给用过的物品和材料被二次使用的机会, 提升人们选购二手物品的意识，减少浪费。我们第一次活动将于2021年10月1日上午10点到晚8点在昆明举办。
我们买过或使用过的每一件物品都会在地球留下印迹。这个市集将可持续生活的常用语付诸实践：拒绝、减少、重复使用、回收。在活动中你可以拒绝并减少购买新的物品，重复使用已经存在于这个世界上的物品，甚至在DIY工作坊中用回收材料创造有用的产品。
在市集上，我们会售卖衣服、鞋子、首饰、书籍、装饰品等小型居家用品。在当今社会里，产生环境影响的最大原因之一是过度消费，我们冲动地按下购物键而产生了很多不必要的购买。
举个例子来说明我们使用物品对环境的影响：比方说我们穿的衣服---纺织业每年产生12亿吨温室气体排放，这比国际航班和航运的总和还要多。仅仅是这一个行业，差不多每年一亿吨的不可循环材料被用于生产人造纤维、棉花产品的肥料、染料和纺织品中的化学成分。此外，全球百分之20的工业用水污染是由纺织品的染色和处理引起的。
而这仅仅只是冰山一角。再看看现在穿的！你知道吗？生产一件白棉衬衫所消耗的水相当于一个人3.5年的饮用水，而生产一条牛仔裤所使用的水则足够10年使用！
这些令人震惊的事实应该让我们在下次想买东西的时候三思后，再点击那个购买按钮。作为摊主加入我们吧！让旧物和回收材料获得二次生命，或者来购买二手物品代替全新物品 - 你永远不知道你可能会发现什么宝物！此外，这里还将举办使用回收材料的DIY工作坊和关于可持续生活的讲座。

The market will be held at this Southeast Asian French-style restaurant serving their special dish – black truffle Bridge-Crossing Rice Noodles. The restaurant also serves afternoon tea, desserts and coffee by a private kitchen.

Who Are We Looking For?
我们在寻找谁？
In order to have an educational and rewarding experience for everyone at the market, we are looking for vendors, loose items for sale, workshop instructors and a guest speaker.
1) Pre-registered Vendors (20 Booths)
These vendors will need to register in advance to secure a booth. During registration, vendors will have to send photos of the items for sale for verification purposes. Please register with us by September 14, 2021 to secure your spot! Vendors who sell second-hand household items are welcome, but we do encourage more vendors to re-create products from re-used items or materials. We will also be releasing an article before the event to promote items as well.
2)Walk-in Vendors (Max 5 Booths)
These vendors can walk in on the day itself to sell their items, but there will only be 5 spots available. There might not be a table provided like the pre-registered vendors, but they can bring their own small table or a cloth to display their items. Before arriving with your items, please check with the organizers to see if there is still space for your booth (max 5 walk-ins accepted).
3)Booth for Loose Items
We will set up a booth specifically for loose items. You may be interested if you have only a few items for sale and do not want to book a whole booth or if you want to sell your items but cannot make it to the venue. Our team will be responsible for the sales on-site.
4) Workshop Instructor(s)
We are looking for any DIY workshop instructors, using reclaimed or recycled materials to create new products. Any reused materials and any products are welcome.
5)Guest Speaker
We are looking for a guest speaker to give a talk related to the theme of the market: “Say No to New!”. It’s possible for the same person to conduct the workshop and also give a speech, but we do encourage more people to get involved.
6) Volunteers
We are looking for volunteers who can help during the event as well as to help organize the event.
In return, you will receive a volunteer certificate presented by Green Solutions China after the event. Through volunteering with us, what you will gain includes: having the opportunity to learn from sustainability-minded people and entrepreneurs, gaining knowledge and experiences in sustainability, and obtaining event organization, coordination and communication skills.

为了让市集里的每一个人都得到有教育意义和有价值的经验，我们正在寻找卖家、零散物品的销售、工作坊的主持人和演讲嘉宾。
1）预注册的卖家（20个展位）
这些卖家需要提前注册以获取展位。注册时，卖家需要发送销售的物品的照片以供核实。请在 2021年09月14日之前和我们报名来保留你的位置！我们欢迎出售二手居家用品的卖家，不过我们鼓励更多的卖家利用回收的物品或材料重新创造产品。另外我们还将在活动前发布一篇文章来推广这些物品。
2）非预注册卖家（最多五个展位）
这些卖家可以在活动当天来销售自己的物品，但是只有五个空位。空位上可能不像注册过的卖家那样有提供的桌子，不过可以自带一个小桌子或者一块桌布来展示物品。来之前，请先和组织方核实是否有空位（最多五个临时展位可以提供）。
3）零散物品
我们机构会为零散的物品专门设置一个展位。如果你只有一些少量的物品可以销售而又不想单独预定一整个展位的话，或者你只是想要卖掉你的东西而你又不能到现场。我们的团队会负责你物品的现场销售。
4）工作坊的主持人
我们正在寻找DIY工作坊的主持人，用回收的材料来创造出新的产品。任何的重复使用的材料和产品都欢迎。
5）演讲嘉宾
我们正在寻找一位演讲嘉宾来做一个对集市主题相关的分享：“对全新说不！”。同一个人可以既是工作坊的主持人又是演讲嘉宾，不过我们鼓励更多的人参与进来。
6）志愿者
我们正在寻找能够在活动期间提供帮助以及帮助组织活动的志愿者。
作为回报，你将在活动结束后收到一份由绿案中国颁发的志愿者证书。通过与我们的志愿服务，你将获得：向有可持续发展意识的个人和创业者学习的机会，获得可持续发展方面的知识和经验，并获得活动组织、协调和沟通技巧。

DOs and DON'Ts for Vendors
卖家可销售的产品及行为规则
-DO bring your unwanted everyday clothes, shoes, accessories, books, home décor and other small household items.
-DO sell products made with reclaimed materials.
-DO ensure your second-hand items are clean, undamaged and usable.
-DO ensure the prices are reasonable and competitive.
-DON’T put intimate items up for sale (e.g. underwear, swimwear).
-DON’T bring large items (e.g. furniture, electric appliances) as we will not be able to accept them.
-DON’T bring any new items or products made with new materials – Say No to New!
-DON’T use additional plastic packaging. This is a plastic-free market, meaning items already sealed in plastic can be accepted, but items re-wrapped in plastic are unacceptable. We encourage no packaging or eco-friendly packaging such as paper, bamboo or other biodegradable wrappings.

- 可以带来你平时不需要的衣服、鞋子、饰品、书籍、家饰品和其他小型居家物品。

- 不要使用额外的塑料包装。这是一个零塑料市集，如果是物品本身已经被塑料密封的可以接受，但不接受用塑料重新再包装。我们鼓励无包装或环保包装，如纸、竹制包装或其它可生物降解的包装物。

Fees/费用
The pricing of all items is independently determined by the vendors. The goal of the market is to give a second life to those items.
1. Pre-registered, Walk-in vendors and Loose item booth: 20% of total revenue up till a maximum of 200 RMB.
2. Pre-registered Vendors: Deposit of 50 RMB is required to secure a booth. This deposit will not be refunded if the pre-registered vendor cancels after September 23, 2021 as we might not have enough time to find a replacement.
3. Workshop instructors will be responsible for their own costs. All profits of the workshop will go to the instructor.

所有物品的定价都由卖家独立决定。市集的目标是给这些物品第二次生命的机会。
1.预注册的卖家、未预注册的卖家和零散物品展位：总营业额的20%，200元人民币封顶。
2.预注册的卖家：需要支付50元的押金预留展位。如果卖家在2021年9月23日后取消，押金不退，因为我们可能没有足够时间来找到替换摊主。
3.工作坊的主持人将负责自己的开销。所有工作坊的收益归主持人所有。
