Reclaimed Wood Sign-Making Workshop 云南山林清洁提示牌旧木改造工作坊
Do you want to help build awareness about plastic waste? If so, join us for a special Saturday DIY workshop to make signs for our monthly Yunnan Mountain Cleanup. Using reclaimed wood, we will create signs to educate people on the dangers of plastic trash in our environment.
Traveling by bus to Damoyu Village, we will meet an expert in reclaimed wooden art hailing from Xinjiang. He is one of 100 new inhabitants taking up residence in the sustainable village. Not only will we get a glimpse into the art of woodworking, but you will be armed with plastic pollution facts and the best methods to educate others.

8:45am – 4:00pm
Departure Information:
We will meet at 8:45 am at the Xizhan Bus Station on Hongshan East Road.
We will take the C61 bus to Damoyu Village (travel time approximately 1 hour).
What to Bring:
-Reclaimed wood, metals, or even glass. Any durable material is acceptable. Reclaimed hardwood flooring is recommended because the coatings can prevent rain and sun from damaging the wooden signs.
-Acrylic paint and paint brushes—but only if you have them. Paints and brushes will be provided for you to use.
-Lunch or lunch money. The village is home to a few restaurants serving both local and western cuisine. But feel free to bring your lunch and snacks if you prefer.
-Reusable water bottles, food containers, and shopping bags in case you want to purchase local fruits and vegetables.
We promote sustainability and strive to be as plastic-free as possible. Please do not bring any single-use plastics (take away cups, straws, plastic bags, single-use food containers, etc).
Please note: we dedicate this workshop to sign-making for our monthly cleanup, not personal project. You can join our cleanups in the future to use your signs.

我们将于上午8:45在虹山东路的西站公交车站集合。
乘坐C61号公交车前往大墨雨村（大约需要1个小时）
携带物品：
· 回收的木材，金属，或者玻璃。任何耐用的材料都可以。建议携带回收的木地板，因为地板涂层可以防止雨水和阳光对木制标志的损害。
· 丙烯涂料和画笔--如果你有的话。我们也会提供涂料和画笔给你使用。
· 午餐或午餐费。村里有几家餐馆，提供中西式的美食。但如果你愿意的话，也可以自带午餐和零食。
· 可重复使用的水杯、食品容器和购物袋，以便购买当地的水果和蔬菜。
我们提倡可持续发展理念，并努力做到尽可能的无塑料。请不要携带任何一次性塑料制品（一次性塑料杯、吸管、塑料袋、一次性饭盒等）。
请注意： 本次活动是专门为我们每月云南山林清洁制作提示牌，而不是个人产品。你可以在将来参加我们的清洁活动，使用你的牌子。

About Damoyu Village
Though the village is only an hour’s drive from bustling downtown Kunming, here, people lead a much slower pace of life. The village was inhabited by local Yi dwellers for centuries before being abandoned when many residents moved to nearby cities in pursuit of higher-paying jobs. A few years back, a university teacher discovered the hamlet, remodeled one of the earthen houses, and settled down here to lead a laid-back and sustainable lifestyle and practice permaculture.
Ever since like-minded people tired of fast-paced lifestyles and heavy pollution in the major cities all over China have moved to Damoyu Village. Today about 150 new members living in harmony with the indigenous people and the surrounding nature.

关于大墨雨村
虽然大墨雨距离繁华的昆明市中心不到一个小时的车程，但你可以发现这里的人生活节奏比城市中慢得多，村庄附近宁静并且不被外界打扰。当地的彝族居民已经在这里居住了几个世纪。但近年，一些居民为了在附近城市找寻高薪的工作而离开了这里。他们的传统住所也因此被废弃。几年前，一位大学老师发现了这座村庄，对其中一座土房进行了改造，并在这里定居下来，倡导着悠闲而可持续的生活方式，并实践着永续耕种。
从那以后，那些厌倦了快节奏的生活方式和中国各大城市的严重污染的志同道合的人陆续来到这里。这个村庄变得繁盛，但依然保持着平静。目前，大约共有150名左右的“新成员”， 他们与当地的住民以及周围的自然和谐友好地相处着。

In a small courtyard workshop, you will observe reclaimed wood from a variety of sources including old house restorations, furniture factory leftovers, and city landscaping projects. Guided by the belief that one (wo)man’s trash is another (wo)man’s treasure, the owner will share his skills and allow you to give new life to each unique piece of reclaimed wood in DIY projects. But it’s not only in woodworking that this local shop practices living sustainably. In all aspects of life, they strive to convert waste into value. We will learn how they use wood dust to build a sanitary waste disposal system and home compost, make skincare products, and live off the land. You will not forget your visit to this inspirational place.
