New Tram Will Connect Major Tourist Attractions in Western BJ
By Justine Lopez
The capital will soon be home to a new tramway, which will connect major tourist sites in western Beijing. The tram, which is being touted as "the most beautiful tram" is expected to be fully operational by the end of this year, China Daily reports.
The line will have six stops and will connect some of the most popular tourist sites around the city, including the botanical gardens, the Summer Palace and the Fragrant Hills, the Beijing Public Transportation Group announced late last year. The tram is intended to be used by both tourists and commuters and will run at a top speed of 70km/h.
Each tram carriage measures 32 meters long and can hold 300 people. It is expected that up to 10,000 people will use the new tram during peak rush hour times.
