隋唐

在中国，最早的刷牙工具是杨柳枝。在隋唐时期，人们把杨柳枝泡在水里，要用的时候，用牙齿咬开杨柳枝，里面的杨柳纤维就会露出来，好像细小的木梳齿，便可以用来刷牙了。

古语“晨嚼齿木”就是这么来的

辽代

考古资料显示，到了辽代（公元959年），已经开始使用骨质植毛牙刷。中国使用牙刷洁齿，已有上千年历史。

南宋

到了南宋，已经有专门制作、销售牙刷的店铺。那时的牙刷是用骨、角、竹、木等材料，在头部钻孔两行，上植马尾，和现代牙刷已经很接近了。

1938年

1938年，美国杜邦公司用尼龙丝全面替代猪毛马尾的技术，出现了第一把塑料牙刷。牙刷生产效率获得了极大提高。

And now, over 4.7 billion plastic toothbrushes that will never biodegrade are dumped in landfills and oceans every year worldwide. That's enough to stretch around the earth 19 times.

从1938年到现在，每一支被扔掉的塑料牙刷都仍然填埋在地球上某个垃圾堆里，无法降解；又或是被冲进海洋或沙滩，被鱼类海鸟误当成食物吞食，再通过食物链重回我们体内；又或是被焚烧处理，释放各种毒气和温室气体。

Since 1938, every single plastic toothbrush ever created is still in existence. They remain in landfills indefinitely. They end up in our oceans and are washed up on our beaches or consumed by marine life. If they are burnt, they release a combination of toxic and greenhouse gases.

眼看着塑料污染已然成为环境问题的核心，生活在美国加州的Kumar一家决定做出改变。2012年，他们成立了Brush with Bamboo，试图用更生态友好的竹制品来替代塑料牙刷。

Plant-based bristles

植物成分的刷毛

柔软的刷毛由62%的蓖麻籽油和38%的塑料制成。虽然不是100%可降解，这已然是业内最好的以植物为基础的成分。（其他品牌生产的可生物降解的刷毛则取自动物毛发）

This special SOFT bristle is composed of 62% Castor Bean Oil, 38% plastic. This is the latest and most advanced biobased bristle in the world today. It’s biobased, but still not biodegradable. We’re pushing bristle manufacturers to develop better alternatives to nylon.

Compostable Packaging

可降解的包装

生态友好的产品包装：内层的包装膜是由植物制成的可降解材料，外盒由纸折叠而成，无需使用胶带或胶水进行粘合。

We wanted to our whole product to be ecological, including the packaging. The toothbrush comes in a compostable wrapper made from plants. The outer box is made from 100% paper and is also biodegradable – no tape or glue is used.
