 Spring Salon

Spring is a door that leaves the memories of the past at a point and brings the prospect of the future into the new year. On the occasion of the Chinese New Year, W.ONESPACE is pleased to present a special Spring Salon, which will combine the traditional European salon-style hang with the literary pursuits of Wei-Jin Qingtan (a "pure conversation" concerning metaphysics and philosophy in the form of informal gatherings for discourse and debate developed during the Wei-Jin period and continued on through the Southern and Northern dynasties). This time, we bring together dozens of works by artists from different countries and periods as the final chapter of 2022, looking forward to starting the new year's art prelude with all the audience.
As the most popular artistic activity from the mid-eighteenth to the nineteenth century in the west, the Salon was initially seen as a regular social venue for the elite and aristocracy. The emergence of the Salon de Paris in 1667 provided an opportunity for emerging artists to be recognized by the public, and this kind of salon subsequently became the breeding ground for art criticism and thus inspired a great deal of exploration of art.
In an exhibition hall surrounded by high walls, hundreds of paintings were densely arranged and presented to the viewer from the bottom up. The appearance of this scene gave the audience a great visual impact, and its overwhelming sense of wrapping and diverse artistic aspects also provided rich discussion material for the audience in attendance. Different art genres and cultures converged and collided in the same space, where diverse ideas burst forth and comfy friendships were established. This was the place where everyone was equal in the meeting of ideas and brainstorming in this humanistic field.
In the Spring Salon, W.ONESPACE will present a series of artworks based on the theme of Chinese New Year in red and green tones. These colors symbolize hope and enthusiasm to us, full of both the hope for the revival of everything in the coming new year and a warm reunion with people. For example, Australian artist Charlie Sheard’s Black and Green Mango is a large abstract work with highly saturated green as the color base, having black and white colors overlapping with it. At the same time, the picture also implies traditional landscape aesthetic elements, with a combination of Pollock-style splash and smooth brushstrokes, revealing the artist's precise control over the use and expression of abstract language. Outsidea piece of  Chinese artist Chen Lulu, depicts an exterior space in deep red, with vivid colors forming a solid, abstract and figurative landscape, rich in a mysterious intention. Besides, the Spring Salon will also feature works by artists from Italy, Germany and China, combining the special display format of a classical salon-style hang to bring a unique visual experience and a space for the exchange of ideas.
The spring is underway (ing), and the new year is about to begin (on). We look forward to reunit at the current Spring Salon, enjoy the conversation and collision, discuss the talent and aspiration, and talk about the hope and prospect of the new year.
