The motto of Northeast Forestry University is "To learn from heaven and earth, to be virtuous and to be natural". It encourages generations of NEFUERS to make their own contributions in the process of building a harmonious society in the process of realizing the harmonious coexistence between man and nature, man and society, man and man.
“学参天地，德合自然”是东北林业大学的校训。它激励着一代又一代东林人在实现人与自然、人与社会、人与人的和谐相处中，在构建社会主义和谐社会的进程中做出自己的贡献。
Among the people who put the motto into practice, one of the most typical person is Li Jian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the International Wood Science Academy. He not only explored new fields of scientific research by learning from nature, but also understood the truth and wisdom of life from nature.
在众多践行校训的人当中，最典型的莫过于中国工程院院士、国际木材科学院院士李坚，他不仅向自然学习，不断开拓科研新领域，更从自然中体悟着人生的道理和智慧。

“你看自然界的种子，不管环境多么恶劣，哪怕落在石头缝儿里，只要努力，也会生根、发芽。‘学参天地，德合自然’是东林的校训，体现的就是这种精神。人就是要不断向自然学习，只要有坚毅的精神，就没有什么克服不了的困难。”李坚说。
