【翻译点津】翻译中容易犯错的几个词汇

boast的意思

多次有人查字典然后质疑说它意思是自夸炫耀吹嘘，但吹嘘是boast of，实际我们经常用到的句型里它不是这个意思

boast的意思就是“有”，表达的意思是“拥有（好东西）”，我们平时翻译时经常会用于公司介绍等，例如

The company boasts a R&D team comprised of professional talents within a staff of128 members.

公司拥有一支优秀专业人士组成的研发团队，现有员工128人。

The houses will boast the latest energy-saving technology.

这些房屋将采用最新节能技术。

或者

Boasting cutting-edge technology and high reputation, Henan Aurora Borealis Translation Service Co., Ltd. has scored a big success.

北极光翻译拥有先进技术和良好口碑，已取得很大成功。

的用法

* the group of people who work for an organization
全体员工，全体雇员

1. There is a good relationship between staff and pupils at the school.
学校里教职员工和学生的关系很融洽。

2. The staff are not very happy about the latest pay increase.
员工们对最近一次加薪不太满意。

3. There are over a hundred staff in the company.
公司有100多名员工。

4. He is on (= a member of) the editorial staff of the magazine.
他是该杂志的一名编辑人员。

常见错误

警告：这是一个集合名词
Staff 指的是一群人，复数不能写成 staffs，只能写作staff
错误：The company employs around 150 staffs. 常见的错误
正确：The company employs around 150 staff.
如果想指这群 staff中的一个或几个人，请写作a member of staff，a staff member，two staff members
错误：Is there a staff who can speak Spanish? 错误
正确：Is there a member of staff who can speak Spanish?

简言之，就是记住常用members

共有员工80人：a staff of 80 members/a staff of 80 people

两名工作人员：two staff members

3. very表示“正是”

very的下述含义曾经多次被质检质疑，这是一个比较常见的用法

very：正是那一个的,就是那一个的,恰好是
That's the very thing I was looking for.
那正是我在寻找的东西
You must do it this very day [minute].
你必须今天[现在] 就做
This happened under her very eyes.
这件事情就在她眼前发生了
He was caught in the very act.
他是被当场抓到的

very可以表示“正是”

some接单数名词和接数字

下述用法较常受到质检质疑：

[用于数字前] 表示大约

Some 40 people attended the rally.

大约有四十人出席大会

The headquarters is some 30 miles due west.

总部位于正西大约30 英里处。

[用于单数名词前]某一；某；某个

She alwaysthinks some guy is going to come along and fix her life.

她总是认为，会有某个男人来到她的身边，把她的生活安排得井井有条。

Some mancalled.

某人打电话来

↑这一点经常有质检人质疑，是很常见的用法

[用作复数] 某些人；某些事物：

Some think heis dead. 有些人认为他已经死了。

↑直接作为代名词，后面不用接什么词

some接数字表示“大约”，接单数名词表示“某一个”
