年度阿尔勒单元 | 马蒂厄·佩尔诺



摄影师马蒂厄·佩尔诺1970年出生于法国弗雷瑞斯,现主要生活和工作在巴黎。当马蒂厄·佩尔诺还在摄影高等师范学校学习时,在阿尔勒遇到了一些吉普赛家庭,这其中就有高尔更一家人,自此他便围绕这家人展开了摄影工作。在2000年左右,他制作了多个系列的相片,主题集中在封闭、城市化和人口迁移问题。他和菲利普·阿尔缇艾尔共同创作的关于精神病医院档案的作品获得了2013年的"纳达尔摄影奖"。2014年,他获得了涅普斯摄影奖,同年,他还在法国国立网球场现代美术馆展出了自己的作品:《横渡》,以此回顾他二十年的摄影生涯。


Mathieu Pernot was born in 1970 in Fréjus, France, and he lives and works in Paris. While studying at the National School of Photography (Ecole nationale supérieure de la photographie), Mathieu Pernot met some gypsy families in Arles, among them the Gorgans, with whom he’s worked ever since. During the 2000s, he developed several series dedicated to the themes of internment, urbanism and the migratory question. The work he did with Philippe Artières on the archives of the Bon Sauveur psychiatric hospital was awarded the Nadar Prize in 2013. In 2014, he was awarded the Niépce Prize. His work was exhibited that same year in a solo show at the Jeu de Paume museum, The Crossing, which retraces twenty years of photography.

我1995年第一次见到高尔更一家,彼时我还在阿尔勒摄影高等师范学校学习。这一家的父母——乔尼和妮娜,同他们的7个孩子生活在旅行挂车上,车子位于铁路货运站和罗讷河之间。当时我并不了解他们生活的社区,也不知道这个罗姆人车队已经在法国生活了超过一世纪。


I met the Gorgan family in 1995, while studying at the National School of Photography in Arles. At the time, the parents, Johny and Ninaï, were living in a caravan with their seven children, on a piece of land located between the rail freight station and the Rhône river. I knew nothing about these communities, and was unaware that this line of Roma had been in France for over a century.

我的第一批照片是黑白的,仍将自己置于一种面对陌生事物时的纪实传统中。我保持了一定的距离,试图了解这一媒介是否能让我们认识这个家庭。然而当我发现了他们保存的一些资料,也和孩子们在火车站的拍立得机器里拍了一组照片后,我很快明白更多元的形式和视角对于理解他们呈现于我眼前的繁复生活是必要的。


I took my first pictures in black and white, placing myself in a documentary tradition in the face of those who were still foreign to me. I kept a distance and tried to understand what this medium could still teach us about them. The discovery of several archival documents that they owned and the pictures taken with the children in the photo booth at the train station soon made me realise that a diversity o fforms and points of view were necessary to give a sense of the richness of the life that came into my view.

2001年我搬到巴黎,远离了高尔更一家好些年。直到2013年,距离上一批照片已经十年之久,我们又再次相遇,我们好似昨天才分别一样。我立即就决定这段故事应该持续被记录下去。他们也交托给我不曾见面的这些年他们拍下的照片。


After moving to Paris in 2011, I was away from the Gorgans for several years. It was in 2013, more than ten years after I had taken these first photos, that we met again-and it was as if it we had only been apart for a day. I immediately saw the obvious necessity to keep this story going for as long as possible. They then gave me the pictures they had taken during all the years we had spent apart.


离最初的见面已有20年,时光在高尔更一家的身体和面孔上留下了痕迹。和我们这些外乡人的时间不同,乔尼和妮娜已经成了祖父母,他们也几次离开车队住进更舒适的公寓里。在他们的陪伴下,我获得了超越摄影的体验。在他们身边,我第一次见证了一个婴儿的出生,也曾为我看着长大的孩子——洛基守灵,他在30岁时突然离世。

Twenty years after that seminal encounter, time has done its work on the bodies and faces of the Gorgans. A time distinct from that of our gadjo world, Johny and Ninaï are now grandparents and in some cases the caravans havebeen abandoned for apartments, deemed comfier. In their company, I lived an experience which surpasses the experience of photography. With them I have witnessed, for the first time, the birth of a child; I have also been to awake for the child I had seen grow up: Rocky, who died brutally at the age of 30. 


这场展览再现了每位家庭成员的生活状态,再叙了我们从面对面到肩并肩共同书写的故事。


The exhibition recreates the circumstances of each member of the family, and recounts the story that we wrote together-face to face, then side by side.
