集美·阿尔勒国际摄影季 | 中国律动：To Be An Image Maker
“2017 集美 · 阿尔勒国际摄影季”将于 11 月 25日开幕，呈现共计30多个展览版块，覆盖摄影作为当代艺术一个重要组成部分的方方面面。“集美 · 阿尔勒国际摄影季”将陆续推出展览单元简介。
2016集美·阿尔勒国际摄影季中国律动单元邀请策展人杜曦云，贺婧，沈宸，鲁小本，将在技术革新的时代，探索影像生产和传播的新方式。

中国律动：To Be An Image Maker

今天的摄影或影像艺术家，不应当仅仅是一个拍摄者，而更应当是对我们当下所处的图像环境具备反思能力的思考者。比起传统概念上的“摄影师”（photographer），他更像是一个图像处理者（an image maker）。而所谓的“处理”，并不是一个纯粹技术性的过程，而是在一系列生成的动作（gesture）中完成对于图像本身及其生成机制的反思。它可以是拍摄、再现、复制、剪辑，甚至是挪用、篡改、重置和破坏。总之，作为图像处理者的艺术家，不再仅仅是摄像机背后按下快门的那个人，也未必再需要时时扮演图像世界中的造物之神。一切关系都可以变得更松散和多维，重要的是能够在图像传播和流通的漩涡里不失时机地介入到一种持续地编写和修篡之中，并在这个过程中形成对其工作对象和工作行为本身的自省。
在中国当代艺术的内部环境中，讨论摄影的当务之急，或许恰恰在于打开所谓“摄影”的边界，破坏那个将摄影自身框限起来的媒介藩篱。实际上，只有当摄影不再被“单独地”隔离讨论，而是被置入当代图像的普遍问题中被看待，或许才能完成这一视觉形式被进一步丰富和激活的可能。展览“To Be An Image Maker”作为本届集美·阿尔勒国际摄影季的单元展览项目，正是尝试以几组中国年轻艺术家的图像实践，来打开狭义的“摄影”与广义的“图像”之间的界线，在探索摄影图像之边界的同时，也将问题指向这一媒介本身在我们当下所处的视觉环境和它的生产机制。也因此，参展的几位艺术家，都并不是传统意义上的“摄影师”，他们或者长期从事影像、装置或文本的创作，或者始终关注于以传统摄影之外的视角和领域来切入对图像本体的思考；同时间，这一展览所呈现的作品，尽管方式各异，但都体现了艺术家对已经存在的图像制式的观察和反思。因而，与其说这是一个关于摄影图像的展览，不如说这是一组关于当代视觉环境和图像机制的文化研究案例。

China Pulse: To Be An Image Maker

Today’s photographers or photographic artists have to not only take photos but also be able to reflect on the environment of photography. Compared with the traditional concept of the “photographer” this describes someone who is more like an “image maker”. The “making” in question is not simply technical, but more a reflection on a series of gestures in the image-making process itself and how they are generated. Whether the image is shot, reproduced, copied, edited, misappropriated, tampered with, reset or even destroyed does not matter. In short, the artist as image-maker is no longer simply the person behind the camera clicking the shutter button, nor necessarily deified as a creator in the image world. All these relationships can loosen up and become multidimensional. What is important is that in the whirlpool of dissemination and circulation, the opportunity to intervene in continuous editing and repair is not lost, and that in the creative process, an introspective attitude towards both object and way of working can be preserved.
In the context of Chinese contemporary art, it is imperative that photography isdiscussed. Perhaps by opening up the so-called “photographic” borders, media barriers that limit the discipline will be lifted. In fact, only when photographyis no longer being talked about on its own, but rather viewed in a general context of contemporary images will it be possible to further enrich and activate this visual form. The exhibition, To Be An Image Maker at Jimei x Arles International Photography Festival will show several young Chinese artists’ image making practices, opening up the narrow confines of “photography” toward a broad idea of the “image.” While exploring the boundaries of photographic images, the problem is directed towards the media itself in our visual environment and its mechanisms of production. Stemming from this, the exhibitors are all not “photographers” in the traditional sense, but creators of images, installations or texts, or have always been concerned images outside of the perspective or discipline of traditional photography. Despite the different approach, the works presented in this exhibition are all reflections on the artists’ existing image making methods. Thus, it is not so much an exhibition of photographic images, but a cultural studies case on contemporary visual environments and image production mechanisms.

关于策展人：
贺婧是工作和生活于北京的策展人和艺术评论人，长期致力于当代图像在知识与观念领域的美学研究。她曾于清华大学美术学院取得学士及硕士学位，之后于巴黎索邦第一大学获得美学与当代艺术策展专业硕士，并曾在法国国立高等装饰艺术学院任研究员。作为长期活跃于艺术评论、出版和策展领域的写作者、编辑和策划人，贺婧曾在《艺术界／LEAP》杂志担任国际版编辑副总监及中法文特刊主编，并于法国国家出版与图像艺术中心、OCT当代艺术中心等国内外多个艺术机构、空间策划展览、放映项目和学术活动。贺婧目前在毛继鸿艺术基金会任学术总监，负责该基金会研究、展览和出版平台的项目内容。
About the curator:
He Jing is a curator and art critic who works and lives in Beijing, and has devoted herself to the aesthetic research of contemporary images in the field of knowledge and ideas. After obtaining her bachelor and master degrees from the Academy of Arts & Design of Tsinghua University, she obtained her master degree in aesthetics and contemporary art curating from University of Sorbonne 1 in Paris and worked as a researcher at the Écolenationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (ENSAD) in France. As a writer, editor and curator who is active in art criticism, publishing and curating, He Jing has worked as vice-supervisor of the international edition of LEAP Magazine and editor in chief of French edition. She has been curator of many exhibitions, screening projects and academic events organized in the Centre National Edition Art et Image, OCT Contemporary Art Center and other art institutions in China and abroad. She is currently the academic director of the Mao Jihong Arts Foundation and is responsible for research, exhibition and publishing platform projects.
