CAP's Annual Recap and Lunar New Year Greetings

With the arrival of the Chinese New Year, the editorial leadership team of Communication and the Public would like to extend season’s greetings to all our authors, reviewers, advisory members, editorial members, and readers. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to each and every one of you for your indispensable contribution to Communication and the Public over the past year.

Achievement Highlights

We are very pleased to accentuate our recent momentous achievements in 2021–2022. The statistics illustrate that our hard work has been paid off.

  • Communication and the Public is an international peer-reviewed journal publishing both theoretical and empirical research articles in the broadly defined intersections of communication and the public. The journal welcomes researches in these areas from all corners of the world, especially where local experiences have been less considered by sociocultural theories or communication studies. While the journal is budding, it has been listed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) (Journal Citation Indicator 2021 = 0.425, Q3) and Scopus (CiteScore 2021 = 1.7, Q2). Our CiteScore substantially increased during 2021, and our ranking has been escalating every year. The journal strives to improve its professional standards and academic taste to reach new height in the academic field of communication.

  • Our Journal Citation Indicator (JCI) in Web of Science has been rising each year, reaching 0.425 in 2021. Our ranking among communication journals has also advanced to 148/218 in 2021.

  • The number of original submissions received in 2022 hit the highest on record at 102, indicating a growth of 11.8% as compared with 2021.

  • We captivated authors from 28 countries worldwide in 2021–2022.

To continue our rigorous and inclusive publication schedule, the journal will proceed with the section: Call for Special Issue Proposals. In 2023, Communication and the Public will include two Special Issues. To be specific, our June Special Issue, initiated by Dr. Fen Lin from City University of Hong Kong and Professor Hongzhong Zhang from Beijing Normal University, will focus on The Information Warfare in the era of Social Media: the Case of the Russian-Ukrainian Crisis. Meanwhile, Dr. Jian Lin from Zhejiang University will be in charge of our December Special Issue about International Communication Association. This section will take a step further in catching up with globally renowned journals by enhancing the influence of Communication and the Public in the field of communication worldwide and providing new insights into heated debate topics.

In 2023, Communication and the Public will press ahead with the “Academic Dialogue” column at the beginning of each issue. We will interview and discuss with internationally renowned communication scholars to reflect on emerging and evolving information- and communication-related topics. In 2022, Communication and the Public invited four leading scholars to share their insights about communication-related topics:

  • 7(1) (March 2022), Revisiting public diplomacy in a postpandemic world: The need for a humanity-centered communication logic, with Professor R. S. Zaharna from American University

  • 7(2) (June 2022), Deplatformization, platform governance and global geopolitics: Interview with José van Dijck, with Professor José van Dijck from Utrecht University

  • 7(3) (September 2022), The third way of global Internet governance: A dialogue with Terry Flew, with Professor Terry Flew from The University of Sydney

  • 7(4) (December 2022), Digitalization of public diplomacy: Concepts, trends, and challenges, with Dr. Ilan Manor from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev

Overall, we attach great importance to the growth of the journal. We would like to solicit valuable suggestions for the above-mentioned section. We remain open to any suggestions that could improve Communication and the Public’s operations and publications.

Happy holidays! Stay safe and healthy so that you can contribute to and enrich the literature!
