NEWS | QR codes now in taxis to track passengers

Click to follow AnyShanghai 2020-03-13

From Friday, passengers can scan a QR code in taxis to register their information, a measure to quickly locate travellers in the event of possible coronavirus exposure, according to the city’s road transport bureau.

Passengers can scan the QR codes through WeChat or Alipay to complete registration after confirming the licence plate and verifying their mobile phone number.

The registration is not mandatory and the information will only be used for coronavirus prevention and control purposes.

The road transport bureau also reminds passengers to use non-contact payment methods as much as possible.
