干货 | 如何利用影视剧提高英文水平

成都小策马 成都策马翻译 2022-10-02

很多小伙伴都想要通过看英美剧提高英语水平,但不少人并不是真的懂得怎么正确地利用影视材料来进行学习,只能是看个“热闹”,而不能达到实际的效果。今天小马就为大家系统地说一下到底应该如何看剧学英语吧!

Part 1 Before you watch

01   Find a film or show that suits your level.

        选择难度适中的电影或者电视剧

For beginners, it might be difficult to understand all the vocabulary in complicated movies or TV shows. Therefore, children’s shows and movies might be a good place to start. You can also try simple sitcom comedies about everyday life.

对于英语初学者来说,如果觉得一般的英文电影电视剧太难了,可以先选择一些少儿节目、电影简单的情景喜剧作为学习材料。

If you are at an intermediate level, you should be able to understand a lot of the films and shows you can find, so you have a much wider choice. Do you like action and adventure, romance or sci-fi? Find something you enjoy watching, that way it won’t even feel like you’re studying.

如果你的英语能力处于中级阶段,那么你的选择就多很多了,因为你能够看懂更多市面上的电影和电视节目。这时候,你可以找一些你喜欢看的材料,无论是功夫片、探险片、爱情片又或是科幻片都可以。使用自己喜欢的影视剧会让你的学习过程更加充满乐趣。

If you’re at an advanced level and you really want to push yourself, consider movies about complicated subjects like politics, law or history.

如果你是个高阶玩家并且想要挑战一下自己,你可以选择一些主题更加复杂的影视材料,如以政治、法律或历史为体裁的影视材料。

那么我们该如何判断

材料难度是否适合自己呢?

Whatever level your English is now, use the same rule: you should be able to understand at least 50% of what you watch without help. That means no subtitiles, no pauses to check the dictionary. If you can’t understand at least half of what you’re watching then it’s too difficult.

无论你的英语水平如何,判断影视材料难度是否适中的标准都是一样的:你是否能够在没有字幕、不按暂停、不查字典的情况下看懂材料的50%。如果不能的话,那么这个材料对于你说就是太难了。

However, you also shouldn’t be able to understand everything. If you understand over 90% of what you’re warching the first time you see it, then it could be too easy. That’s fine if you just want to relax, but if you want to push yourself and improve your English faster, try to find something you can understand most of it but not all of it.

但是如果你第一次看这个材料就能理解个九成,那么该材料对于你来说就太简单了。要是作为娱乐休闲的话,简单的材料没有什么问题,但如果你想推自己一把从而获得更快速的进步的话,建议找难度适中的材料来练习。

02   Do not depend too much on subtitles.

        不要过分依赖字幕

Subtitles can really help from watching movies or TV in English but they can be dangerous too. If you depend too much on subtitles, especially subtitles in your own language, then you won’t be listening and thinking in English.

字幕能够帮助我们更好地理解影视剧,但是如果我们过于依赖于字幕(尤其是中文字幕)的话,就很难提高英文听力和培养英语思维。

所以,最好就是关掉字幕。

毕竟,现实生活也不会有字幕。

The best choice is to watch without any subtitles at all. That way you’re really learning English, which is the most effective way to learn quickly.

最好是完全不用字幕。这样你才能学得更好、更快。

The second best choice is to watch with subtitles in English. If you feel that you need subtitles in your own language then you might be trying to watch something which is too difficult.

若真的要用字幕,也要使用英文字幕。如果你觉得你没字幕看不下去,那很有可能是你选的材料难度太大了,不适合现在阶段的你。

03  Beware of when and where the show was made.

        选择影片时需注意制片时间和国家

The language and phrases are often very different depending on the origin.

首先,不同地区制作的影视作品中的遣词用句有相当大的差异。

For example, in an Australian movie you might hear the greeting “G’day, mate”. That’s because it’s a common Australian greeting but it’s rare outside of Australia. If you start saying “G’day, mate” every time you enter an English class, it’s going to sound quite strange.

比如说,澳大利亚的电影中你可能会听到人们会说“G'day, mate”来打招呼。这在澳大利亚是很普遍的打招呼的话,但如果你每次去上课的时候用这句话跟别人打招呼的话,别人可能会觉得很奇怪。

When a movie or show was made is also important.

节目的制片年份也很重要。

Languge is always changing. so movies from 1940 and 2010 will sound very different. Often, slang and idioms have completely changed.

语言总是不断变化的,所以说1940年和2010年的电影中听到的语言会很不一样,尤其是所使用的俚语和俗语。

For example, have you ever heard of a “fuddy-duddy”? This is a slang from the 1940s or 50s. Some people might know what this means, but you probably wouldn’t use it nowadays.

比如说,你听过“fuddy-duddy”这个词吗?这个词在四五十年代的时候非常流行,但现在大家都不这么说了。

 04   Get a notepad.

        准备一个笔记本

Make sure you have a notepad with you to write down any words you don’t understand and a phone or a computer to check the words online.

在观看影片之前,准备好一个笔记本。遇到不会的词和表达可以记下来,稍后可以查询。

Part 2 While you're watching

Watching a long movie in a foreign language can be overwhelming and maybe you don’t actually have the time to watch and understand everything in one go.

很多人可能没有时间和精力一次性看完并学习完一部长长的英文电影。

Start by breaking the film or TV show into small sections. For example, just watch 5-10 minutes at one time.

我们可以把电影或电视剧分成许多小片段比如说,我们可以把它剪成每五到十分钟一段。(小编推荐按照情境来划分哦)

 01   首次观看片段:

不开字幕、不间断地过一遍

Watch the section, no subtitles, no pauses. Just relax. Try to understand what you can. Press play. When you finished, pause and ask yourself these questions.

观看第一次的时候不要开字幕也不要暂停。放轻松地看,能理解多少就多少。看完之后,试着问自己以下问题:

Can you explain what happened in 3 to 5 sentences?

你能用三到五句话说一下片段主要内容吗?

Who was in the film or TV show? Can you describe them?

片段中有哪些人物,你能描述一下他们吗?

Can you remember anything specific they said?你还记得他们说了什么话吗?

Try to make some notes about what you’ve seen. Make a few bullet points like this:

尝试描述你所看到的场景,列出几个大点,比如:

The man arrived at the party and started talking with the woman.

His best friend arrived and fell in the swimming pool.

The woman kissed the man on the cheek and left the party.

 02   第二次观看片段

把注意力放在第一遍没有听清楚的词上

必要时可以使用英文字幕

Watch it again, with English subtitles if you really need them.

再次观看片段,必要时可加上英文字幕。

If you could answer the two questions you just saw, then probably you understand quite a lot. You don’t have subtitles in real life so it’s better not to use them. But if you didn’t understand much, you could use them now.

如果你能够回答上一步的问题的话,你应该已经对这个片段有相当深入的了解了。在第二次观看片段时,最好不要用字幕。但如果你确实没有看懂,也可以开一下英文字幕。

 03   第三次观看片段:

摘抄新词或者有用的表达

Go back to the start of the movie or show and watch the same section for a third time. While you are watching, try to write any phrases or vocabulary you don’t understand.

重新再把片段看一遍。在第三次观看的时候,把不懂的词和表达摘抄到笔记本上

Check the new vocabulary in a dictionary. Think about how they were used in the scene you just watched.

摘抄好之后,查字典了解新词的意思。想想这些词在片段中是如何使用的。

 04   第四次观看片段:

听到新词按暂停键,模仿跟读

Watch from the beginning again. Keep your notepad open and listen out for your new words and phrases. After you hear new vocabulary, pause the video, and try to repeat the whole sentence with a new word or phrase. This will help you to remember the vocabulary and will also help you to practice your pronounciation.

第四次观看片段的时候要打开你的笔记本,认真听你摘抄下来的词什么时候出现。一旦听到这些词句,按下暂停键,然后跟读词所在的句子。这样一来,你不但能够记住单词,还能纠正发音。

Part 3 After you watch

完成“输入”环节后,

我们就要开始“输出”啦

Take your list of new words and phrases. Choose 5 to 10 that you like and that think you could use in your spoken English. Make a list and put it up somewhere you often see.

现在拿出你记下的词汇和表达,选出其中5到10个你人认为你喜欢的或者你认为可以运用到日常口语的表达并抄在便条上,并把这张便条贴在你经常可以看到的地方

Try to use your words on your list. You can use them in English class or when talking with your English-speaking friend. Once you’ve used the word or phrase, cross it off. It will really give you that extra motivation.

尽可能在生活中使用列表上的新单词。比如说上英语课的时候或者和外国友人聊天的时候,可以有目的地运用这些新词汇。用过了的词可以在旁边打个勾,这样你会更有动力,争取把列表上的所有词都用一遍!
