Department of Public Information
The Department of Public Information (DPI) was established in 1946, by General Assembly resolution 13 (I), to promote global awareness and understanding of the work of the United Nations. DPI undertakes this goal through radio, television, print, the Internet, video-conferencing and other media tools.
The Department reports annually on its work to the UN General Assembly's Committee on Information. The Committee, which meets once a year, is responsible for overseeing the work of DPI and for providing it guidance on policies, programmes and activities of the Department.

Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is located in the Arabic Language Unit, Radio Section of the News and Media Division, which produces news and feature stories on multimedia platforms including radio, video, photo and web. The internship is for three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, pending on the needs of the department. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Chief of the Arabic Unit, Radio Section.
Responsibilities
The unit is seeking interns interested in gaining professional, hands-on experience with radio and multimedia functions, specifically in news production, digital audio and video recording and editing, and social media projects. Functions will include assisting in the production of news stories for various platforms.
The intern may also collaborate with staff on social media, so knowledge of Social Media platforms – Twitter, Facebook, YouTube - is highly desirable. The intern will be providing editorial and technical assistance to content producers.

Client Orientation: - Considers all those to whom services are provided to be "clients " and seeks to see things from clients' point of view -Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect -Identifies clients' needs and matches them to appropriate solutions -Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients' environment to keep informed and anticipate problems -Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects -Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.
Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations New York Headquarters Internship Programme, Department of Public Information, the following conditions must be met:
1. Applicants must:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree in broadcasting, journalism, communications, multimedia or media studies (as defined in (a) or (b) above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar;
3. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
4. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Work Experience
No professional work experience required.
Languages
English or French are the working languages of the United Nations.
For the internship advertised, fluency in both English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
