The internship positions are located in the Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in New York. The internship is for two (2) months from 8 July 2019 to 8 September 2019, with a possibility of extension, subject to the needs of the Department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Chief of the Verbatim Reporting Section/Service or the internship supervisor, as appropriate. Candidates are encouraged to highlight their specific skills and/or experience in their application. They are asked to do so carefully in order to enhance the value of the internship for both themselves and the receiving Section/Service.
Interns will be responsible for the following duties: (a) translating into Chinese, which must be the candidates’ main language, verbatim records of meetings written in English, for training and other purposes and subject to review; (b) performing other related duties as required.

Technological Awareness: Keeps abreast of available technology; understands applicability and limitations of technology to the work of the office; actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to learn new technology.
Communication: Speaks and writes clearly and effectively; listens to others, correctly interprets messages from others and responds appropriately; asks questions to clarify, and exhibits interest in having two-way communication; tailors language, tone, style and format to match audience; demonstrates openness in sharing information and keeping people informed.
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
-Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
-Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
-Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, much commence the internship within a one year period of graduation from an academic programme.
Applicants who are unable to commence the internship within one year of graduation shall not be accepted.
Professional experience is not required, but would be considered an asset.
Complete mastery of the candidate’s main language (the language of the Section/Service in which the internship will be spent) and a good knowledge of another official language. Knowledge of a third official language would be an asset. The official languages of the United Nations are: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.
Candidates will be assessed based on their Personal History Profiles (PHP). Individual interviews and/or tests may be conducted for further assessment.
A completed online application (Cover Note and Personal History Profile) is required.
Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. The Cover Note must:
(i) include the name of your degree programme (What are you currently studying?) and your graduation date (When will you graduate or when did you graduate from the programme?);
(ii) list the IT skills and programmes that you are proficient in and your top three areas of interest; and
(iii) explain your interest in the United Nations Internship Programme and why you are the best candidate for this specific internship. In your online Personal History Profile, be sure to include all past work experience, IT skills and three references.
