PART 1
Org. Setting and Reporting
The Organizational Development Section within Office of Human Resources (OHR), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance (DMSPC), is seeking interns with a background in organizational development, human resources management, industrial/organisational/occupational psychology, and other relevant fields, interested in gaining professional, hands-on experience with organizational development, staff engagement and performance management in a large-scale, multi-cultural, global organization.
The internship is for a minimum of three months with a possibility for extension up to six months. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of seasoned UN HR specialists.
Internships are unpaid and travel costs, travel arrangements (including visas) and living accommodations are the responsibility of the intern.
PART 2
Responsibilities
This opportunity is designed for an intern to work on different aspects around staff engagement and performance management. Interns will be assigned to specific projects based on individual backgrounds and preferences. A variety of projects centred on staff engagement and performance management are currently on-going. Depending on the assignment, project tasks may include the following:
- Support design of a staff engagement survey;
- Support development and execution of communication strategies on staff engagement;
- Support the delivery of a global staff engagement survey within the UN;
- Develop presentation on various topics relevant for organizational development;
- Identify and develop innovative ways to communicate with globally dispersed employees on new initiatives;
- Plan for and document meetings;
- Analyze data and present conclusions;
- Other administrative tasks and projects as needed.
PART 3

Teamwork: Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals; Solicits input by genuinely valuing others' ideas and expertise, is willing to learn from others; Places team agenda before personal agenda; Supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position; Shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.
Planning & Organizing: Develops clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies; identifies priority activities and assignments; adjusts priorities as required; allocates appropriate amount of time and resources for completing work; foresees risks and allows for contingencies when planning; monitors and adjusts plans and actions as necessary; uses time efficiently.
PART 4
Education
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;
Preference will be given to applicants with an educational background in Industrial/Organisational/Occupational Psychology and Human Resources.
PART 5
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the project. However, applicants are encouraged to list all relevant work experiences in their personal history profile.
Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications (i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with statistical software (e.g., SPSS) is desirable.
PART 6
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, Fluency in all four areas of English is required (i.e., speaking, writing, reading, listening). Fluency in French is desirable.
