国际组织实习丨UNEP Internship 联合国环境规划署日内瓦招募实习生 可远程实习

联合国环境规划署中文简称"环境署",是联合国系统内负责全球环境事务的牵头部门和权威机构,环境署激发、提倡、教育和促进全球资源的合理利用并推动全球环境的可持续发展。1972年12月15日,联合国大会作出建立环境规划署的决议。1973年1月,作为联合国统筹全世界环保工作的组织,联合国环境规划署(United Nations Environment Programme,简称UNEP)正式成立。环境规划署的临时总部设在瑞士日内瓦,后于同年10月迁至肯尼亚首都内罗毕。环境规划署是一个业务性的辅助机构,它每年通过联合国经济和社会理事会向大会报告自己的活动。

Responsibilities


Specific tasks and support will depend on the individual's background as well as the internship period. 

1.Science Unit (1 intern):

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer(s) of the CITES Science Unit, the intern will:

•Assist with conducting research and analyses related to the implementation of specific CoP Decisions and Resolutions allocated to the Science Unit
•Assist in conducting background research for the preparation of substantive meeting documents
•Compile and prepare analyses of information submitted by Parties in response to various calls for information related to their implementation of the Convention 
•Assist with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor of the intern

The following qualifications are required for this internship:
•academic qualifications in a relevant scientific area, including conservation biology; environmental or political sciences; wildlife, forestry or fishery management; ecology; etc.;
•Ability to undertake research, provide analytical and programmatic support, and compile, organize and analyze data; and
•Interested in working at the science-policy interface

2.Legal and Enforcement Units (2 Interns)

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer(s) of the CITES Legal and Enforcement Units, the intern(s) will:

•Assist with conducting research and analyses related to the implementation of specific CoP Decisions and Resolutions
•Assist in conducting background research for the preparation of substantive meeting documents
•Compile and prepare analyses of information submitted by Parties in response to various calls for information related to their implementation of the Convention 
•Assist with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor of the intern

The following Qualifications are required for this internship:
•Academic qualifications mentioned above in the fields of law (public, international, criminal, environmental) or social sciences; 
•Interest and motivation to work on legal, compliance and/or enforcement matters related to CITES; 
•Experience with compliance or enforcement (judiciary, customs, polices, wildlife authority) will be an asset

3.Governing Bodies Unit (1 Intern)

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer of the CITES Governing Bodies Unit, the intern will:

•Assist in the preparation of documents and reports to be submitted to the CITES Permanent Committees. 
•Compile and prepare analyses of information submitted by Parties in response to various calls for information related to their implementation of the Convention (implementation reports)
•Assist with the development of document tagging and archival system within the CITES Secretariat
•Assist with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor of the intern

The following Qualifications are required for this internship:
•Organizational skills
•Be detail-oriented and thorough;
•Knowledge of archiving and cataloguing could be an advantage
•Knowledge of French or Spanish is highly desirable 

4.Outreach and Projects Unit (1 Intern)

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of the CITES Outreach and Projects Unit, the intern will:

•Assist in the maintenance of assigned CITES webpages 
•Assist in outreach and media work
•Assist in responding to queries or preparing elements of responses
•Assist with collecting, managing and sorting project-related information

The following Qualifications are required for this internship:
•Academic background and experience in Project management, communication or computer science (including social media, web development/management)
•Knowledge of French or Spanish is highly desirable 
•Knowledge and experience in desktop design is an advantage

5.Administration and Finance Unit (1 Intern)

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Officer of the CITES Administrative and Finance Unit, the intern will:

•Assist in the process of planning and organizing meetings, telephone conferences and side-events;
•Assist with archiving and record-keeping;
•Assist in collecting administrative and financial data for uploading into database
•Assist with other tasks as assigned by the supervisor of the intern

The following Qualifications are required for this internship:
•Academic background and experience in business administration
•Knowledge of Microsoft systems
•Knowledge of database access design is an advantage

Uses time efficiently.

CLIENT ORIENTATION: Considers all those to whom services are provided to be “clients” and seeks to see things from clients’ point of view; Establishes and maintains productive partnerships with clients by gaining their trust and respect; Identifies clients’ needs and matches them to appropriate solutions; Monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the clients’ environment to keep informed and anticipate problems; Keeps clients informed of progress or setbacks in projects; Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client.

Education


Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(b) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent or higher); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree.

Candidate should demonstrate keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter. 

Candidate should demonstrate ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Be computer literate in standard software applications and be fully proficient in computer skills and use of web based platforms and relevant software e.g. word processing, PowerPoint, excel, internal databases, Internet etc. 

Preferred area of study: International Relations or Environmental Science (see above academic requirements per internship). 

Additional Requirements:
•Some knowledge and understanding of CITES and its mandate 
•Good computer skills 
•Good interpersonal skills, respectful and ethical behavior

Work Experience


No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages


Fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French and Spanish (working languages of the CITES) and of other languages, such as Arabic, Chinese or Russian, will be an advantage.

NOTE: "Fluency equals a rating of "fluent" in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and "Knowledge of" equals a rating of "confident" in two of the four areas.
