Hi, bye, see you online.

If I was a minimalist writer (which if you have read anything I have put out to the world will know I am the absolute opposite and perhaps have a problem with keeping things succinct in the world of digital letters on these digital screens) that would have been the end of the post, but I guess I will share a few more words about this:

STORE CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT

Fool me once, shame on you.

Fool me twice, shame on me. 

Fool me thrice... okay, you win, Beijing, you don't want us to have an offline store, fine, have it your way!

Beiluo has 4 coffee shops: Voyage, Wake Up Coffee, V7 and another one.

I'm not knocking coffee shops, I love coffee, but some variation in the offline world would have been nice, but it just ain't to be.

"Never say never" as the saying goes, so let's go with:

"Never unless we can buy the location in Beijing and so can have control over what we can do with the location. (e.g. keep it open)" so, yeah, I guess that means never, BUT, I'm not gonna say it (but I have written the forbidden word 4 times).

So why "Fool me thrice"?

For non-avid readers (fans?), you might not know but this is the 3rd store we have had in Beijng when we first started a zero waste store in the January of 2018.

It went like this:

THE BULK HOUSE 1.0 (once)

Location in Beijing: Maizidian

Dates: March 2018 to March 2020 (yep, we did spend money renovating the store to only have it for 2 months)

We had 10 days' notice given to move out. Very kind.

THE BULK HOUSE 2.0 (twice)

Location in Beijing: Gulou Dongdajie

Dates: March 2018 to March 2019 (I think it was the 25th March)

We moved into an office for a little while and tried to work out what angle we were gonna go at with this zero waste thing because in our early days we were doing all sorts: workshops, talks, consulting, putting on markets, organising events, wasted a lot of time in meetings, after a while we finally decided to just focus on products.

We did some thinking and some doing for 544 days whilst being offline storeless but we had online stores running.

THE BULK HOUSE 3.0 (thrice)

Location in Beijing: Beiluoguxiang

Dates: 18th September 2020 to 17th September 2022

We have to move out (we don't want to move out) on the 17th, so on the day of posting this announcement in English you'll have 26 days to stop by the store, hug the door, kiss a wall or whisper sweet nothings to a shelf, it's entirely up to you. 

Before you think I am looking for your sympathy vote, I'm not, I just thought I'd let you know. If you have something helpful to let people know, speak up, let them know and of the many things I want to say, here is one of them... running a store, as rewarding as it might be, is hard work and it's even harder work when you have unpredictability to fight against.

And so...

THE BULK HOUSE 4.0 (quarce)

Yep, quarce is a word. You don't just come here to learn about zero waste, I know ya, you come here for the randomness, and quarce, phwoah! you ain't see that word on another Official WeChat Account, my milkshake (in the form of the word "quarce") brings all the boys to the yard.
