Zhangjiajie is located in central China, northwest Hunan Province, over 1,000 kilometers from both Shanghai and Beijing. Zhangjiajie is famous for its precarious peaks, limpid streams, dense forests, and large karst caves. It was thrust into foreigner travelers' eyes after the movie Avatar. The Hallelujah Mountains in Avatar were inspired by Heavenly Pillar in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. In 1982, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park became China's first national forest park.

“Enjoy beautiful waterscape in Jiuzhaigou, while enjoy the miraculous mountains in Zhangjiajie”.  Zhangjiajie is the “World Geological Park” located in the northwestern part of Hunan Province. It is known as the “Number-One Miraculous Mountain in the World” and “The Original Manuscript of Chinese Landscape Painting”.

The three must-see attractions in Zhangjiajie are the National Park, Tianmen Mountain, and Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is large and needs at least two days to explore. It draws a large number of visitors with its awesome towering geology and rich wildlife. Tianmen Mountain is quite different from the national park, featuring mountain peak vistas, cliff path walking, and a cable car with fantastic views. Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon Glass Bridge is the world's longest and highest glass-bottomed bridge, with a total length of 430 meters and a height of 300 meters.

• What to wear: warm and windproof clothes

• What to expect: The panoramas of snow-covered mountains can make winters special. The most likely time to see snow scenery in the mountains is from mid January to late February. There are a few heavy snow falls at that time every year.

• Good to know: It is cold in the mountains, with slippery roads, so access may be restricted. There are also far fewer tourists in winter so the main sites are less crowded. Prices of hotels are lower than in peak season.

About the Local Food:  Food in Zhangjiajie is spicy and strong-flavored Hunan cuisin. Food in Wulingyuan is better than in the park, but still limited. There are no vegetarian and Western restaurants in the town.

• Hunan cuisine is even hotter and spicier than the spicy red hot flavors of Sichuan cuisine,. Common cooking techniques include stewing, frying, pot-roasting, braising and smoking.

• Tujia dishes are characterized by sourness and spiciness. Their favorites are pickled dishes and smoked dishes. Pickled dishes include pickled pepper, cabbage, ginger, meat, and fish. Smoked dishes include smoked pork, salted lamb, and salted beef.

Statement about the Train Ticket

• CET will buy hard sleeping bed train tickets for you, once we get your tickets, we will inform you in our group or text you.

• The train from Beijing to Zhangjiajie is K473 leaving at 16:15 and arrive at 16:48 on the next day

• The train back to beijing is K474 leaving at 14:40 and will arrive at beijing 14:55 on the next day.

• We will try to arrange all of the participants in the same train firstly, but if there is no tickets available, we have to take different train.

• All the train tickets are sold randomly, so it is a little difficult to get the sequential tickets during holiday, hope you can understand and book the trip in advance.

Avoid Place Name Confusion

Wulingyuan Scenic Area ≠ Zhangjiajie National Forest Park ≠ Tianzi Mountain

Strictly speaking, Wulingyuan Scenic Area consists of four parts: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Tianzi Mountain Nature Reserve, Suoxi Valley Natural Resource Reserve, and Yangjiajie Scenic Area. It covers a total area of 369 square kilometers (142 square miles).

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, part of Wulingyuan Scenic Area, contains Yuanjiajie, Golden Whip Stream, Yellow Stone Village, etc. It covers a total area of 48 square km (19 square miles).

When it comes to touring Zhangjiajie, for ticketing etc., Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is often regarded as the same area as Wulingyuan Scenic Area.

You can buy one ticket (248 yuan in 2017) to visit the four parts of Wulingyuan Scenic Area through any of the five entrance gates.

Yangjiajie ≠ Yuanjiajie

Both Yangjiajie and Yuanjiajie are inside the national forest park. Yuanjiajie is the most-visited area because of Avatar Hallelujah Mountain.Yangjiajie, a newly discovered area, is the least-crowded area, with spectacular scenery, and challenging hiking.

Tianzi Mountain ≠ Tianmen Mountian

Tianzi Mountain is in the north of Wulingyuan Scenic Area, close to Hallelujah Mountain. Tianmen Mountain is a large scenic mountain with many attractions, adjacent to Zhangjiajie City. It is about 35 miles between Tianzi Mountain and Tianmen Mountain.

Glass Bridge ≠ Glass Skywalks ≠ Glass Elevator

The Glass Bridge spans two cliffs in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The glass skywalks are built along the edges of the summit of Tianmen Mountain, which is in Zhangjiajie city proper. Bailong Glass Elevator is inside Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. Built onto the side of a huge cliff, it provides an easy way to ascend to the top of a towering mountain.

Full Itinerary Day by Day

Day 1: Beijing-Zhangjiajie from Beijing Train Station Overnight at the train.

Transfer: By train, berth train tickets.

Meals: None, prepare some snacks before you get on the train.

Accommodation: Overnight on the train.

Please Note: Dont forget to take your passport and student book if you are student. Cold-proof clothing is needed if you dont want to frostbite.

Leaving from Beijing to Zhangjiajie, Find our trip leader at the Flag Tower of BeijingXi Train Station (Find CET Green Flag)  to get your train ticket. and then get together to check inside and take the train. It will take 24 hours on the train. So remember to bring some food with you.

Transport ideas: Actually most of CETtrips are planed for foreign students, so in order to make our trips more affordable, most transports of our trips are by train. But in fact, there are many flights available for this trip,  and Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport is just 6 km from downtown area. It is convenient as well for this trip. So if you need, please feel free to consult our travel advisor.

Day 2: Zhangjiajie- Wulingyuan, Live in Wulingyuan

Transfer: Local travelling bus

Meals: There are many good restrants nearby our hotel, after hotel check in, it is your time to taste  Hunan cuisine or Tujia dishes by yourself.

Accommodation: 3 star hotel in Wulingyuan

Please Note: If you didnt same transpot (like flight or High-speed train) and your arrival time is different from our group, you can choose to go to the hotel firstly or wait for our group and then take our bus to hotel.

Welcome to Zhangjiajie! Upon arrival, you will be greeted by our tour guide in the train station who is holding a sign on which CETtrip. A comfortable vehicle (non-smoking) with experienced driver will transfer you directly to your hotel in the Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan. Your guide will help you check in. The rest of today is on your own to explore this beautiful city. Have a good sleep tonight.

Day 3: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park - Yuanjiajie - Tianzi Mount, Live in Wulingyuan

Transfer: By local travelling bus.

Meals: Breakfast and Dinner, have your lunch on the mount by yourself.

Accommodation: 3 star hotel in Wulingyuan

Please Note: Bailong Elevator is 78RMB for Round Way, it is needed to arrvie Yuanjiajie. The Cable Car for Tianzi Mount is 72RMB if you want to experience.

After breakfast, start your full-day Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Adventure. Located 32 kilometers from Zhangjiajie city, Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the first state-level forest park in China. It is known for its exquisite forests, odd-shaped peaks and rocks, the beautiful canyons, the limestone caves, and the breath-taking panoramic views. The words, such as majestic, eccentric, tranquil, delicate and wild, are not enough to describe it's beauty. 

Firstly, go to take the 326-meter-high Bailong Elevator (the tallest and the fastest in the world) up to Yuanjiajie, which is situated in the north of Zhangjiajie National Park. This scenic area is world famous as the mountains here inspired the floating mountains in the Hollywood movie Avatar. The peaks in Yuanjiajie are nearly at the same height, which makes it a mountain platform great for enjoying sweeping vistas.

Next, take a sightseeing bus to Tianzi Mountain, where you can have a stunning view of the peaks rising one after another. Atop of the mountain offers a full extent of the whole scenic area, which is magnificent and spectacular. There are four wonders in Tianzi Mountain: the Sea of Clouds, the Radiance of the Moonlight, Rays of Sunshine and the Snow in winter.

After the exciting tour, your guide and driver will escort you to your hotel. 

Day 4: Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon - Golden Whip Brook - Ten-mile Gallery Live in Zhangjiajie City

Transfer: By local travelling bus.

Meals: Breakfast、lunch and Dinner

Accommodation: 3 star hotel in Zhangjiajie City

Please Note: In Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, we choose to only experience the thrilling glass bridge and no hiking in the Grand Canyon, this canyon is too normal compared with Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.

In this morning, After breakfast, be ready for today's exciting adventure. You'll drive about 20 km to visit Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. You will start from the Tourist Center to Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge to walk on the highest and longest glass bridge in the world. After that, appreciate the charming sightseeing of running waters, flying waterfalls, lush vegetation, etc. at the Rainbow Square, Yilian Youmeng, Momo Cave, the Holy Spring Lake and other beautiful attractions in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon. 

After lunch, you’ll explore the famous Golden Whip Brook which covers a distance of 7.5 km, winding across mountains and valleys. It is famous for its pristine water, its verdant mountains, its steep cliffs and its serene valley. As a veritable "paradise" for plants, its pathways are adorned by an abundance of flowers, trees, and grasses.

Afterwards, you will visit Ten-mile Gallery, you can choose to hike or take the sightseeing train to inside. Diverse shapes of stones stand on both sides of the valley, which will make you feel like traveling along a beautiful natural gallery.

After the tour, you'll be transferred to your hotel in Zhangjiajie downtown area.

Day 5 Tianmen Mount - Train Station, take the train back to Beijing, Overnight at the train

Transfer: By local travelling bus+Train back to Beijing.

Meals: Breakfast、lunch.

Accommodation: Overnight on the train.

After breakfast, your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel. On this day, you’ll first take a trip to Tianmen Mountain. Referred to as the “Soul of culture and spirit of Zhangjiajie”, Tianmen Mountain, standing 1,500 meters above sea level, boasts miraculous and unique geographic landform, unparalleled natural landscape, profound cultural connotations.

Experience the longest cableway in Asia with a length of 7200 meters, take photos of Avenue toward Heaven with 99 turns from cable car. On the top of Tianmen Mountain, enjoy the Cliff-Hanging Walkway and avoid the crowds to take some photos; hold your breath and experience the thrilling Glass Sky Walk. Then, visit the natural mountain-penetrating Karst cave - Tianmen Cave. The foot of the cave is wonderful photo opportunity with the hole in the mountain as the background. It is worth waiting for the sunlight to shine through the hole with mist or smoke illuminating the way.

After the tour, your guide and driver will escort you the airport or railway station to catch the train to your next destination. Service ends!
