Human mobility and pandemic | GSIS
The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped human mobility to an unprecedented extent and on various scales (globally, nationally, regionally, and individually). Since early 2020, governments around the world have introduced measures to contain the pandemic, including lockdown, travel restrictions, border closures, reduction of public transport, and self-isolation of risky groups. The impact of these measures on mobility varies across space and time, as well as travel modes and demographic groups. As these measures are being lifted and the world is gradually recovering from the pandemic, it remains unknown whether human mobility would return to the pre-pandemic pattern, which is an important research question in geography and urban analytics.
This Special Issue entitled “Multi-scale and multi-mode human mobility: pre, peri and post COVID-19 pandemic” is dedicated to its exploration at the full range of spatial, temporal, and spatial-temporal scales and travel modes (walking, cycling, driving, public transport (train, tube/metro, bus and airplan), etc.), and to reflect the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on human mobility and the future of human mobility. We invite contributions on human mobility which provides insights on changes that human mobility undergoes during and after the COVID-19 crisis.
