Unit4 I used to be afraid of the dark.

一、教学目标：

1. 语言知识目标：

1) 学习掌握下列词汇：

background, interview, Asian, deal with, dare, private, guard, require

2) 阅读短文，能按要求获取相关的信息。

3) 通过阅读训练来提高学生们的阅读能力。

4) 学习运用used to来表达“过去常常”存在的状态或的发生的动作。

2. 情感态度价值观目标：

让学生明白事物是在不断发展、变化的道理，培养学生积极向上的心态。

二、教学重难点

1. 教学重点：

1) 掌握本部分出现的生词和词组，达到熟练运用的目标。

2) 阅读短文，获得相关的信息。通过阅读练习，来提高阅读能力。

2. 教学难点：

1)  阅读短文，获得相关的信息的能力。

2)  理解并运用所学的词汇及表达方式。

Ⅰ. Revision

Translate the sentences into English.

1. 马里奥以前很矮，他戴着眼镜。

1. Read to learn about how Candy Wang has changed.

2. To talk about what Candy used to be like and how she has changed.

3. To learn the new words and phrases: deal with, interview, private, guard, require…

Work on 3a.

Tell Ss to read the article and identify the paragraphs [1-3] in which the information appears.

IV. Pair work

Work on 3c. Suppose you are the interviewer and your partner is Candy. Ask and

answer questions.

Give Ss some examples:

—Hi, Candy. It’s a great pleasure to interview you. 

—Hi, Amy. Glad to see you! 

—You used to be shy, didn’t you? 

—Yes, I did. I used to be shy and took up singing to deal with my shyness.
