“老师在很多方面都努力激发同学们的思考，在辩论当中激发同学们的批判性思考和独立性思维”，22商务英语专业2班学生卢艺涵对外教Jodi评价道。跨越太平洋，首次来到中国任教《英语辩论》英语专业课程，对于中文零基础的外教Jodi来说，新面孔、新身份、新环境、新语言，这些都构建了前所未有的新语境，Jodi用自己的教学方式和话语行动搭建语言的桥梁，带领广师大学子领略外语表达思考的魅力。
"Professor Jodi tries to stimulate the students' thinking in many aspect, and arouses the students' critical and independent thinking in the process of debating," said Lu Yihan, a student in Class 2 of the 2022 Business English major, commenting. Across the Pacific Ocean, for the first time, came to China to teach the English professional course "English Debate", for Jodi, a foreign teacher with no foundation in Chinese, new faces, new identities, new environments and new language, have built an unprecedented new context. Jodi uses her own teaching methods of words and actions to build a bridge of language, leading the students of Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University to appreciate the charm of foreign language expression and thinking.
Jodi本科毕业于家政学专业，这门管理类专业涉及范围面之广为她培养复合型能力创造了条件。她既有服装设计师会缝纫的本领，又有营养师能烹饪营养食品的技能，更有教师教书育人的能力素质。因此，Jodi自2011年起在祖国牙买加一所高中从事教育工作，而后在加拿大、美国美洲等地旅居，凭借自己的本领去探索世界广阔无垠的精彩。
Jodi graduated with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics, a management major that covers a wide range of areas that allow her to develop complex skills. She not only has the skills of a fashion designer who can sew, but also has the skills of a nutritionist who can cook nutritious food, and has the ability to teach and educate people. As a result, Jodi has been teaching at a high school in her motherland Jamaica since 2011 and has since lived in Canada, the United States, and so on.
熟“新”，才能“心”相连。当Jodi知道自己要来中国教书的时候，她比她的学生更加紧张：中国的学生会不会不喜欢她？会不会听不懂她的讲课内容？会不会不习惯她的授课方式？直至来到广师大，这些萦绕在她的脑中的担忧得以消释。中国学生的彬彬有礼打消了她的顾虑，初来乍到时，三位学生耐心领着她到上课的课室，尽管中国学生们有些腼腆、内敛，但是他们都踊跃参与到课堂互动中。智能快捷的教学设备让她印象深刻，每个教室都配有智慧教室系统，投影仪、智能平台这些都让她感到新奇，积极拥抱新鲜事物的她在同学们的帮助下也得以迅速上手。宽敞的校园环境让她感到舒适怡然，但在超1000亩占地面积的广师大白云校区，她也经常迷路走错，需要帮助才能找到正确的地方，同学们也乐于指引Jodi找到餐厅、教师公寓校内各个角落。

When Jodi found out she was coming to China to teach, she was even more nervous than her students: Would the Chinese students like her? Will they understand what she is saying? Will they be used to her way of teaching? It wasn't until she came to Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University that these worries that lingered in her mind were dispelled. The politeness of the Chinese students dispelled her concerns, and when she first arrived, the three students patiently led her to the classroom. Although the Chinese students were a little shy and reserved, they all enthusiastically participated in the class interaction. She was impressed by the intelligent and fast teaching equipment, each classroom was equipped with a innovative classroom system, projectors, intelligent platforms, which made her feel novel, and she could quickly get started with the help of her students, who actively embrace new things. The spacious campus makes her feel comfortable, but in the Baiyun Campus of Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University, which covers an area of more than 165 acres, she often needs help to get to the right place. She often gets lost and goes to the wrong students place, Her students are also happy to guide her to find restaurants and teachers' apartments.
在她的辩论课堂里，诸如“库里和梅西谁更胜一筹”“可口可乐和百事可乐哪个更好喝”“米饭和面条谁更好吃”这些新奇有趣的辩题中，Jodi调动着学生们辩论的激情，用辩论挖掘英语的魅力，打开思辨的新思路，让学生们深度沉浸在思维碰撞的火花中，鼓励同学们热情地生活，冷静地思考；她也积极拥抱新鲜事物，在广师大任教过程中悉心感受中国的风土人文，跨越时空积极探索汉语的魅力。

The openness and inclusiveness of foreign language made Dr. Xie more successful during her master's and doctoral studies. Bridging with English, she met many colleagues in the field of English education at the University of Exeter in the UK, which deepened her understanding of English teaching and research. During her PhD studies in the UK, she needed to aid local university undergraduate students in their studies, pair up with graduate students at the university, and gained a lot in educational skills, casesstudy and action research on English language teaching in these wonderful academic exchange activities.
2021年，谢建媚老师来到广东技术师范大学开启新的一段执教生涯。她一直通过自己的课堂设计践行“以学生为中心”和“以学习为中心”的教育理念，让《英语教师课堂话语与班级管理》这门课变得生动有趣。通过设计“模拟课堂”“画出心目中的课室”等教学活动，谢建媚老师让一群小老师们用英语搭建起妙趣横生的模拟课堂，并带领着同学们用纸笔描绘对教师职业生涯的幻想和期待。在广师大任教的三年，谢建媚老师看着自己的本科生、硕士生也站在讲台上成为了老师，她感到更重要的责任也压之肩上：要以教师的身份培养更多的广师大学生成为教师，让更多广师大的教师走上讲台“传道授业解惑”。
In 2021, Dr. Xie came to Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University to start another new teaching career. She has been practicing the educational philosophy of "student-centered" and "learning centered" through her classroom design, making the course "English Teachers' Classroom Discourse and Classroom Management" lively and interesting. Through the design of teaching activities such as "Simulated Classroom" and "Draw the Classroom in Your Mind", Dr. Xie asked a group of “Preparatory teachers” to build an interesting simulated classroom in English, and led the students to depict their fantasies and expectations for the teacher's career with pen and paper. During the three years of teaching at Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University, Dr. Xie saw her own undergraduate and postgraduate students become teachers, feeling that a more important responsibility was also pressed on her shoulders: to train more students to become teachers as teachers, so that more teachers of Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University could go to the podium to "propagate the doctrine, impart professional knowledge，and resolve doubts．
兼有自身的幽默风趣，谢建媚老师用巧思和乐趣点缀专业知识。在课堂上，谢建媚老师始终露出自己赞许与欣慰的笑容，即便有同学词不达意，她也会适时进行补充圆场，用幽默的话语和知识的援引，化解同学们在课堂上的困窘，同学们在无形之中学习了实用的教师技能。“谢老师展现出自信、美丽与开放的个人魅力，她会针对性根据同学们的表现进行反馈，在她的课上，一条条枯燥的课堂话语仿佛走出了课本，她真正做到了寓教于乐，在玩乐中学，在学中实践”，21英语(师范)卓越班的刘丁睿这样评价谢建媚老师的课堂。
With her own humor, Xie embellishes her professional knowledge with ingenuity and fun. In the classroom, Dr. Xie always showed her praise and gratifying smile. Even if some students’ language fails to express the meaning, she would assist them in a timely manner with humorous words and knowledge to resolve the embarrassment, and students can practice teaching skills in a invisible way. "Dr. Xie shows her self-confidence, beauty and open-minded personal charm, and she will give feedback according to the performance of her students. In her class, the boring classroom discourse seem to be out of the textbook. She really realizes edutainment, and keep us learning through fun and learning in practice", Liu Dingrui of the 2021 English (Normal) Excellence Class commented on Dr. Xie's class.

被国外友人一顿英语输出后，杨光的脑子还有些懵懵的，他连蒙带猜，搜刮拼凑简单的词汇，再加上肢体语言的配合，尽力回应着对方。这是杨光初到美国留学时最常经历的事情。而如今，在美国东北大学就读了三个月的他，已然能够拎起包独身游玩三百多公里外的纽约。
After being shocked in English by a foreign friend, Yang Guang was still a little confused；he guessed, searched and pieced together simple words, coupled with the cooperation of body language, and tried his best to respond to the friend. This is what Yang Guang experienced most often when he first came to the United States to study. Now, after three months of study at Northeastern University in the United States, he is able to pick up his bag and travel alone to New York, which is more than 300 kilometers away.
杨光想要出国留学深造的想法在大二时就已然萌芽，“当时脑子一热，想到外国去真正学有关计算机行业或者游戏开发的技术。”杨光也立马为之付诸了行动。他先是在网上对计算机行业发展状况及趋势进行相关信息检索，在了解到美国发达的游戏行业后，他将目光锁定在能为学生配备长期实习的美国东北大学。然而，对杨光而言，获取这份Offer并非易事，托福考试中的听力测试便是最大的“拦路虎”。为了克服这一语言能力短板，杨光通过大量听力训练提高自己的英语听力技能。顺利通过托福考试后，他开始填写各类申报资料，为申请硕士研究生学位做好充足准备。终于，一段时间后，美国东北大学的Offer跨越太平洋顺利来到了杨光的手上。
Yang Guang's idea of studying abroad was already germinated in his sophomore year, "At that time, I was impetuous, and wanted to go abroad to literally learn about the computer industry or game development technology. Yang also immediately put it into action. After learning about the developed game industry in the United States, he set his sights on Northeastern University, which can equip students with long-term internship. However, it was not easy for Yang to get this Offer, and the listening test in the TOEFL was the biggest "obstacle". In order to overcome this language shortcoming, Yang improved his English listening skills through extensive listening training. After successfully passing the TOEFL exam, he began to fill out various application materials to fully prepare for the application for a master's degree. Finally, after a period of time, the Offer from Northeastern University in the United States crossed the Pacific Ocean and came to Yang's hands.

With a distance of about 14,000 kilometers and a time difference of 13 hours, Yang went to the United States to study alone. When he first arrived in the United States, Yang's biggest difficulty was the language problem. When it comes to cross-language communication, Yang often felt cramped and embarrassed. In professional learning, the long course task descriptions assigned by the instructor often made him feel like a great enemy. Fortunately, his classmates actively reached out to him, patiently guided him in every step of the submission process, and told him the tutor's requirements in detail, so that he was able to successfully complete one course task after another.
在不断与同学们进行交流的过程中，杨光的口语也得到了提升，逐渐从一个“社恐”变成如今能侃侃而谈的“社牛”，沉浸在多元开放的美国社会文化里，在新语境中慢慢习惯了在美国东北大学的生活。他也变得更加乐于表达自己，敢于尝试，寻找机遇，追逐梦想。

“我考了三次，第三次才达到爱丁堡教育学专业的要求。”早前申请学校时，麦田便对爱丁堡大学“教育学与人类学相结合”的新颖课程很感兴趣。收到6个Offer的她，决定择优接受爱丁堡大学的Offer，此时她还差一份“总分7.0（单项不低于6.5）”的雅思成绩单。为此，她在整个寒假期间全身心投入第三次的备考。终于，麦田成功克服了阻碍她前进的重重困难。
"I took the exam three times and finally met the entry requirements for MSc Education Programme in University of Edinburgh." When she applied for Master’s programme, she was interested in the unique curriculum, combining “Education and Anthropology” at the University of Edinburgh(hereafter, UoE). Having received 6 offers, she decided to accept the offer from UoE, but she had to achieve an overall score of 7.0 (no less than 6.5 in each section) in the IELTS exam. Therefore, she devoted herself to preparing for the exam during the entire winter holiday. Finally, Mai Tian successfully overcame the obstacles that blocked her way from moving forward.
办签证、订机票、办银行卡、租房子，留学的琐碎事宜铺天盖地向麦田涌来。虽有彷徨失措，她靠着父母的帮助与自己的独立尝试，将这些一一妥帖处理。历经多次中转，终于在一天一夜之后安全抵达爱丁堡。在期待与不安中，麦田正式开始了在英国的留学生活。
All the trivial matters of studying abroad like visa and bank card application, flight booking, apartment rental came to her, just like an avalanche. In spite of panic and confusion, she strived to deal with these matters one by one, with the help of her parents. After many stopovers, she finally arrived in Edinburgh safely after a day and a night. In anticipation and anxiety, Mai Tian began her new journey in the UK.
“什么fish and chips啊，真的是吃两下就腻了，所以平时要自己做饭。”与每位初到异国他乡的留学生一样，麦田同样无所适从。由于爱丁堡大学的学术氛围浓厚，课程论文的引用格式和写作风格都与国内大相径庭，要求她花费大量时间和精力琢磨细节，这对母语并非英语的麦田是巨大的挑战。英国的房子大多没有阳台，所以当地人几乎没有晾晒的习惯，这让麦田与室友难以适应。在公共洗衣房，一次清洗与烘干衣服的费用约为50元人民币，为节约开销，麦田和室友商量决定一周洗烘一次衣服。由于公共洗衣房里机器的卫生一言难尽，两个中国女孩每周都拿着酒精和用过的一次性洗脸巾，把洗衣机与烘干机仔仔细细地擦拭一遍，才将积攒了一周的衣物丢进去。
"Fish and Chips, are some things that I really get tired of eating, so I have to cook by myself." Like every international student who is new to a foreign country, Mai Tian had the same confusion. Due to the strong academic atmosphere at UoE, the citation, format and writing styles of coursework are very different from those in China, which requires her to spend a lot of time and energy to figure out the details. This has been a huge challenge for Mai Tian, who is not a native English speaker. Most houses in the UK have no balconies, so local residents usually do not have the habit of drying their clothes. It is difficult for Mai Tian and her roommate to adapt. The cost of washing and drying clothes in the public laundry room is about 50 yuan, so in order to save money, Mai Tian and her roommate decided to do the laundry once a week. Since the hygiene of the machines in the public laundry is always unsatisfactory, two Chinese girls carefully wiped down the washing machine and dryer by 75% medical alcohol and used diposable facial towels, before throwing the week's worth of laundry into it.
曾经在广师大习以为常的学习、生活与饮食习惯，在异国他乡不得不改变。一年里，她不断摸索与碰撞，逐渐适应了在英国的生活。“留学这一年，是站在父母的肩上看世界。”于她而言，爱丁堡是“风景很美，也很治愈”的城市。她讲述了在英国许多印象深刻的见闻，活泼的维修老人给她的生活增添了一些乐趣，秉持“There is no silly question”观点、对问题来者不拒的老师让她在学习上有了更多思考的空间和方向，六月份的彩虹游行让她对不同文化共存的意义有了更深刻的感想……
The study, lifestyle and eating habits that she had been familiar with in Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University, had to change greatly in a foreign country. Over a whole year, she continued to explore and collide, gradually adapting to the lifestyle in the UK. "The year abroad is about standing on my parents’ shoulders and seeing the world." For her, Edinburgh is a city with "beautiful and healing scenery". She recounted many of her impressive experiences in the UK: the elderly kind staff working at her apartment has added some fun to her life, the teachers who uphold the view of "there is no silly question" have given her more space and direction to think about what she has learned. Moreover, the “Rainbow Parade” in June has inspired her to think more deeply about the meaning of coexistence of different cultures.
稇载而归，麦田不仅在学识上收获颇丰，还以更广阔的视野理解世界。在爱丁堡的生活已至尾声，这一年里，麦田以勇敢、独立为题，用拼搏作笔，在英国写下了独属于自己的绚烂痕迹。
No effort goes in vain, Mai Tian not only gained a lot of knowledge, but also understood the world through a broader perspective. “雷猴（粤语），这个站怎么去呀（普通话）？”托马斯低头微颔，露出灿烂的笑容，向路人询问到体育西站地铁站的转线路径，行人惊讶于他流利的普通话，连连称赞并耐心地向他指引着地铁换乘路线，托马斯双手合十微微弯腰，开心笑道：“唔该！（粤语）”，他转身挥手向站台走去。地铁上，他站立在车厢中部，看着车窗上倒映着的他的身影，托马斯不禁想起自己五年前初来广师大的模样。
"Lei hou (Cantonese, Hello),Could you please tell me how to get to this metro station (Mandarin)?" Lowered his head slightly, showed a bright smile, Thomas asked passers-by how to transfer to the Tiyuxillu station, the pedestrian was surprised by Thomas’s fluent Putonghua, repeatedly praising him and patiently guiding him to transfer. 四年的工学学士生活，一年的硕士研究生生活，托马斯在广师大学习生活了五年。这期间，他见证着广师大翻天覆地的变化，同样地，广师大也记录着这位塞拉利昂留学生日渐成长的印记。除了托马斯，广师大也见证了其他留学生的滴滴汗水和进步。每天，广师大都会有一群学生聚集在东校区第一教学楼七楼进行汉语学习。偌大的课室里插满了各国旗帜，代表着来自五湖四海的留学生们。他们虽来自不同国度，却能够以汉语为桥梁，跨越地域，跨越种族，跨越信仰，友好相处，共同进步。从一开始念着蹩脚的“你好”到课堂上滔滔不绝的演讲展示，他们用汉语叙述着在中国的点点滴滴。这七年间，托马斯都沐浴在浓厚的学风中。在七年汉语的熏陶影响下，他通过汉语找到了更多元、更丰富的自己，汉语的文化根也深深扎进他心底最柔软的“泥地”。同时，他还被广师大海纳百川的包容力和极具关怀的校园管理所感染，表示希望继续在广师大学习深造。

托马斯喜欢把自己比作一张素白的明信片。这张明信片从塞拉利昂出发，走到哪里，便会沾上哪里的印记。这张行走的明信片，曾越过桂林的崇山峻岭，淌过昆明的涔涔小溪，穿过广州的城市森林。蓦然回首，这张明信片上已布满五彩斑斓的图画，誊满鲜红的中国文字。“逢山开路，遇水搭桥”，这位塞拉利昂小伙用汉语铺就理解和读懂中国的宽敞道路，以五年的留学时光诉说着他对中国的喜爱之情。

At first glance, she appears no different from the Chinese, with a typical East Asian appearance and a fluent command of the Chinese language, which benefits from her long-term life in Guangzhou. As far as she is concerned, Guangzhou has gradually become her second hometown.
在开始为期八年的中国求学之旅之前，马雅馨在菲律宾一所幼儿园工作。直到她陪着妈妈和朋友来到中国，热爱环球旅行的她冥冥之中感觉自己与中国有个解不开的“中国结”。从广东技术师范大学的工商管理学学士到教育学硕士研究生，马雅馨在广州生活期间，经常能够找到中国与菲律宾生活方式之间的一些相似之处，这令她十分惊喜。无论是饮食文化、餐桌礼仪，还是传统习俗，她都能从中发现一些与自己国家相似的地方，因而感到无比亲切，求学之路也越走越舒心。
Before embarking on her eight-year journey of study in China, Ma yaxin worked in a kindergarten in the Philippines. It wasn't until she accompanied her mother and friends to China, as a lover of global travel, that she felt there was an indescribable connection between herself and China just like an indissoluble "Chinese knot". From studying business management to obtaining a master's degree of education in Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University, Ma yaxin surprisingly found many similarities between Chinese and Filipino lifestyle during her stay in Guangzhou. For example, she could often find similarities in aspects of local cuisine, dining etiquette, or traditional customs, ect., which gave her a strong sense of closeness and facilitated her academic journey.
在广师大的求学路中，总不乏良师相伴指点。汉字的书写对于国际教育学院里大多数留学生来说都是一件难事，而马雅馨的辅导员——马倩美老师，总会在她遇到困难时给予帮助。一撇一捺中，汉字的雏形在反复练习中有了正确的模样。马倩美老师总会在点评完书写成果后再鼓励她多练习几个汉字，马雅馨也乐此不疲，甘之如饴，在不断挑战自己的过程中感受中国汉字之美，领略中华书法文化魅力。
During her studies in Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University, Ma yaxin was always accompanied by mentors who guided and helped her a lot. Writing Chinese characters was difficult for most international students in the International Education College, but Teacher Ma, as Ma yaxin’s counsellor, always offered generous help in Chinese acquisition. Through repeated practice, each stroke of the Chinese characters took shape. Besides that, Teacher Ma would always commented on her writing, then encouraged her to practice more characters. Ma yaxin enjoyed this challenging process without any complaint, while appreciating the charm of traditional Chinese calligraphy culture.
除此以外，马雅馨也经常在其他课堂上积极展现自己，表达自己，把自己的留学故事讲给大家听。其实她也曾胆怯过，害怕这么多双眼睛目视着她出错，露出自己最窘迫的一面。但是她的老师总能站在讲台上对她投以肯定的眼神，鼓励她勇敢地展示自己的汇报。在老师的鼓励下，她站得更加挺直，汇报的声音更加响亮。对中文的热爱和无畏的勇气让她在一次又一次的重复中得到提升与进步。最终，她的普通话从一开始的结结巴巴到最后变得流畅自如，地道自然。
In addition, Ma yaxin also actively displayed herself and shared her study abroad stories with her classmates in other classes. In reality, she had been afraid that she would make mistakes and felt embarrassed in front of others. However, her teachers would always stand on the podium and give her positive look, encouraging her to bravely make her presentation. With the encouragement from her teachers, she stood up straighter and her voice became louder during her presentations. Her passion for the Chinese language and fearless courage boosted her to improve and progress through thousands of repetition. Eventually, she can speak it fluently and naturally.
除了良师的陪伴，多种多样的文化活动也为马雅馨丰富多彩的校园生活增添了浓墨重彩的一笔，她也在其中感受到广师大的温暖和关怀。她积极报名学校的校运会武术展演，在近距离接触武术的过程中感悟到中国武术的博大精深与源远流长。武术讲究手臂腿脚间的比划，一推一拉，一蹬一踢；刚劲流畅间，动静结合中，她深切感受到武术所蕴含的独特精神文化内涵，中国武术文化也因此在她脑海里变得更为具象。
Besides the companionship of mentors, a variety of cultural activities made Ma yaxin's campus life more vibrant, which also enabled her to feel the warmth and care of Guangzhou Polytechnic Normal University. She actively signed up for GPNU martial arts performance during the campus sports meeting, through which she gained a deep understanding of the profound and long-standing characteristics of Chinese martial arts. Martial arts emphasize the unity of gestures and movements, accomplished between pushes and pulls, as well as, kicks and strike. When she managed to achieve a combination of strength and fluidity and reached the balance between movement and stillness, she deeply understood the unique spiritual and cultural essence inherent in martial arts. As a result, the concept of Chinese martial arts culture became more concrete in her mind.
作为一个外向的女孩，马雅馨的身影不断活跃在学校诸多活动中，无论是歌唱比赛还是诗歌朗诵，抑或是舞蹈比赛，她都会积极参加。这些经历让她得以接受中华文化的熏陶，涵养情操。马雅馨千里迢迢来到中国，飞越重洋，跨越文化，诚心求学，相信她在广师大的求学生活能够越来越多姿多彩！
As an outgoing girl, Ma yaxin's constantly takes an active part in diverse activities at school, including singing competitions, poetry recitals and dance competitions. These experiences makes her fully indulge in Chinese culture and cultivate her character inherently. Ma yaxin traveled a long way to China, crossing the ocean and transcending cultural barriers, with a sincere desire for knowledge. It’s believed that her academic life at Guangzhou Normal University will become more and more colorful!
