Hello, everyone！Every day we hear different kinds of sound around us. From the last class, we have known that it's because the air takes the sound to our ears. But what about a solid，like a ruler or a stone? These solid things are unlike air or water. Can sound TRAVEL through them? Which can hold sound travel better, the air or the solid? Let's do an experiment.

First pick up the wooden ruler on your desk. It's 25cm long. Hold one end of the ruler 2cm from your ear. Make sure that the near end of the ruler is 2cm from your ear. It's very important. Now knock on the far end of the ruler. Yes, I mean you make some sound on the ruler with your fingers. Can you hear the sound you make? Pay attention to how loud the sound is. Next move the ruler 27cm away from your ear and knock on the near end, so that you are making noise at the same distance from your ear as before. Compare the sound you hear with that you heard just now.  Which one is louder? Yes, the first sound is much louder. That is, the sound is much louder when it is carried by the wooden ruler than by air. From this experiment, we can see that solids are much better carriers of sound than air or water.
