The Great Truth is Simple

Very good afternoon I would like to bid everybody. My name is Nicol and I am from Malaysia. I would like to begin by asking you a question. If I were to ask you to differentiate between the words fact and truth, what would you say?It's almost seem like impossible to put into words. Dosen't it? Let me give you a few elaborations. The fact is that I'm currently standing on a box because I am too short. And the fact is that I also have very high forehead and my friends tell me that it glimms like the moon in the night whenever I tie my hair back. But my truth is that I actually think that I am pretty tall. You are just taller. And other than that, my traditional Chinese grandparents, Malaysian Chinese grandparents, like to tell me that my high forehead is a sign of prosperity and intelligence. It means my brain is bigger. And I think that they are doing that to console me. But you know what, I am going to take that as my truth as well. It makes me feel better of myself.so you see facts are objective but truth is relative. And the great truth that I want to share with you all today is that you and I have our own stories to tell, our own truths to share. And it is a very simple truth because all of our stories are something we ourselves are intimately connected with. No studying required. So let me tell you an example of how simple it is to show this great truth.

There was once a five-year-old girl. And she loves candies a lot. She loves sweets. And her grandmother thought that she was going to lose all her teeth. So her grandmother like any other Chinese grandmother decided to hide the candy jar. And she hid it on the top shelf in the kitchen, thinking that this girl would never be able to reach it. But this girl dragged chairs, climbed to the top of that shelf, got her candy and then blamed her brother for the candy theft. And you know what, her grandmother believed her. Now based on this story and this facts, I can assume that many of us in this room would think that she would grow up to be a girl full of greed, full of wits and a girl who were certainly no deemed wit. And for the most part, that was definitely true. She was excelling in her academics in school, growing up. And she even held such a key position. But I can tell you that although the facts show that she was very confident, that was not her truth. Her truth was far from that.

And it was that she used to look into the mirror and wonder why her skin color and her facial features didn’t match what she was seeing on her television screen. Her Chinese name was JiaJia. And what happened was that a lot of people who didn’t know that her Jias meant two different things and couldn’t differentiate between house and home and like to say “Jia Jia, house house come here. Why your name so dumb one?” And that was the truth that she was face with. And I can tell you that she had some violent thoughts in her mind whenever that happened. But it also cheap the way a better her esteem every single day. And so this is an example of how that girl is now standing here in front of you are proud of ancient Chinese. And she is not proud of her name. But you see that is a fact. But the truth is that I shared with you earlier about her journey to this point. Show so much more. And so that’s how our great truths are so simple as an outpouring of our hearts. And now I would like to ask you what’s your great truth. Thank you!
