The Story of Nian
《年的故事》
In the old days, there was a monster.
It was Nian.
Everyone was afraid of it.
在过去，有一个怪物。
叫年。
每个人都很害怕它。
Spring was coming.
Nian went to a village at night.
It ate many animals.
春天来了。
年晚上去了一个村庄。
它吃了许多动物。
One day, an old man came to the village.
“Don’t be afraid. I have an idea,” he said.
一天，一位老人来到了村子。
“别害怕。我有个主意，”他说。
He put up a couplet on the door and set off fireworks.
People followed him.
他在门上挂了一副对联，放了烟花。
人们开始模仿他。
Nian came again.
It saw the red couplets and heard the fireworks.
It was afraid and ran away.
年又来了。
它看到了红对联，听到了烟花。
它害怕地跑开了。
Everyone was happy again.
From then on, they put up couplets and set off fireworks on that day every year.
The day was named Nian.
大家又高兴起来了。
从那以后，他们每年都会在那天贴上对联，放烟花。
这一天被命名为年。
