Welcome to the Voice of America's News Words.

NASA's TESS satellite launched in April.

Its mission is to look for planets orbiting nearby stars.

EXOPLANET

TESS searches for exoplanets in one piece of the sky before going on to another.

When the satellite completes its search, scientists will perform a detailed study of the exoplanets.

Exoplanets are planets that orbit a star other than the sun.

Since 1995, thousands of exoplanets have been discovered.

Little is known about them, including whether some might hold forms of life.
