Summary: Jiaxin Wang, a 2024 XJTLU graduate, faced a sudden pneumothorax during the exam week. Despite needing immediate surgery, Wang decided he did not want to miss his final exam.
XJTLU’s Registry and International Business School Suzhou liaised with the hospital and provided an exam setting in the hospital. Wang completed his exam on 12 June, followed by a successful surgery the next day. Wang is currently in recovery.

Summary: Tumour protein P53 (TP53) plays an important role in suppressing the growth of tumours. Mutations in the gene for TP53 can have a disastrous effect, hampering the body’s ability to fight tumours and even encouraging their growth.
Recently, a team of researchers from XJTLU and other institutions across China published a study in which they engineered a short sequence of artificial DNA to target a particular mutant version of TP53. This mutation, called p53-R175H, is linked with lung, colorectal, and breast cancers, and tumours featuring the mutation are more likely to become resistant to chemotherapy treatments, such as cisplatin.
