ExxonMobil Hosts Girls in STEMM Students in Beijing & Shanghai

WEC Team WE Council 2023-09-17

This month ExxonMobil hosted over 60 students participating in the Girls in STEMM Program across Beijing and Shanghai.

In Beijing, students from four different schools engaged with women leaders through workshops and presentations that taught students not only what a STEMM career looks like, but also the crucial role women play at ExxonMobil. In Shanghai, students visited ExxonMobil Shanghai Technology Center where they went on a guided tour of the facilities led by STEMM professionals. On the tour, students got an up close look at the main projects carried out by ExxonMobil and learned about the functions of the different equipment used to execute them.

In both cities, students had the chance to hear directly from women leaders about their own professional journeys in STEMM. Students were inspired by leaders who spoke about their supportive husbands who are stay at home dads, women who majored in film but still thrive at a STEMM company, and young professionals who recalled their own high school experience just a few years ago.

The Women Empowerment Council and all six participating schools thank ExxonMobil for their warm hospitality and commitment to gender equity. The students made valuable connections between their own curriculum and the different activities at ExxonMobil. Even more importantly, the girls are now empowered to picture themselves in these roles after interacting with such wonderful women role models at ExxonMobil.

Thanks again to all of the volunteers from the ExxonMobil team: Fernando Vallina, Tze San Koh, Shi Tong Leong, David Zhu, Stella Hu, Janet Gong, Wendy Ng, Janel Atwood, Li Na, Liu Jing, Connie Feng, Vincent Chen, Mellisa Bade, Jennifer Fornek, Elsa Xu, Liu Yan Mei, Wen Bo Ya, and Ya Yu Jie.

Up next, students from the Canadian International School of Beijing, Dulwich College Beijing, the International School of Beijing, and Keystone Academy will be visiting ConocoPhillips, and Concordia International School Shanghai and Yew Chung International School Shanghai (Pudong & Puxi) will visit Henkel.
