“Go bananas”的意思不是“去香蕉”，还真挺难猜出来意思的！

banana是香蕉的意思，那go go bananas 是“去香蕉”的意思吗？其实还挺难猜对的，今天就跟阡陌姐姐一起学习相关知识吧~

go bananas

表示某人发疯、精神错乱、情绪不稳定

为什么这么理解呢？猴子喜欢香蕉，看见就上蹿下跳的，后来引申为发疯。

例句：

My dad will go bananas if I'm late again.

如果我再迟到，我老爸会抓狂的。

那么，表达“生气的，抓狂的”还有下面一些单词：

go nuts大发雷霆

例句：

My sister will go nuts when she finds out I've wrecked her car. 

要是我姐姐发现我弄坏了她的车，她会气疯的。

go mental 疯狂，气愤，行事愚蠢

例句：

Have you gone mental? Why do you keep arguing with the boss? You'll get fired.

你是不是疯了？你怎么能跟老板吵个不停？你要被炒鱿鱼了。

hit the ceiling/ hit the roof 

这两个短语的意思是：暴跳如雷，极其恼火

例句：

Dad will hit the ceiling when he finds out I've left school. 

爸爸要是发现我离开了学校一定会暴跳如雷的。

drive / make somebody crazy

意思是：逼疯，抓狂

例句：

The way she talked drove/ made me crazy.

她说话的方式让我抓狂。 

blow up 勃然大怒

例句：

My dad blew up when he saw the phone bill. 

我爸看到电话账单后大发雷霆。

pop one's cork 发脾气，勃然大怒

例句：

I have something to tell you. Please, don't pop your cork.

我有点事儿要告诉你。你听了可千万别生气哈。

freak out 崩溃，反常，被激怒

例句：

Mum, don't freak out! I've just crashed the car.

妈，你要挺住！我刚刚把咱家车撞坏了。

blow one's top 发狂，发神经

例句：

I think he'll blow his top when you give him the news.

我觉得你把这个消息告诉他，他一定会疯掉的。

fly off the handle 大发雷霆

例句：

He's extremely irritable - he flies off the handle at the slightest thing. 

他极容易发火——芝麻大的小事都能让他大发雷霆。

go off the deep end 大怒，火冒三丈

例句：

I'll go off the deep end if I get fired because of his mistake.

要是因为他的失误导致我被开除，我肯定要气死了。

Apple系列

被误解的apple（苹果）有：

bad apple 坏蛋

例句：

There's always a bad apple in every bunch. 

到哪儿都有害群之马。

Big Apple 纽约

例句：

The main attractions of the Big Apple are well documented.

对纽约的主要旅游胜地有详细的记载。

The apple of one's eye 某个特别珍爱的人/物

例句：

John little girl is the apple of his eye, he loves her so much.

小女儿是John的掌上明珠，他非常爱她。

To not give a fig

fig  英 [fɪɡ]  美 [fɪɡ]  n. 无花果；无价值的东西

fig 是无花果的意思，除此之外，fig 还可以表示无价值的东西，to not give a fig 也就是毫无重视，一点儿也不放在心上。

例句：

Helen and I are no longer friends, I do not give a fig what she thinks.

我和Helen已经不是朋友，我一点也不在乎她怎么想。

To be a peach

Peach  英 [pi:tʃ]   美 [pitʃ]  

n.桃子;桃红色;极好的人（或物）

形容一个人是一个桃儿，其实就是想表达Ta很好很nice！

例句：

Thank you for helping me paint, James, you're a peach!

谢谢你帮我画画，你真是个好人！

To have sour grapes

Grape  英 [greɪp]   美 [ɡrep]  

n.葡萄;深紫色，葡萄紫

To have sour grapes 表示 吃不着葡萄就说葡萄酸。

例句：

Of course, such a conceited person is going to have some sour grapes after losing. 

想想也知道，那么自负的人在输了比赛之后总是会有些酸葡萄心态嘛。

To cherry-pick

Cherry  英 [ˈtʃeri]  美 [ˈtʃeri]n.    樱桃; 樱桃树; 樱花树; 樱桃木       adj. 樱桃色的; 鲜红色的

cherry 是樱桃的意思，pick 是摘取的意思，而一般摘樱桃是一个漫长的过程，而且都是挑成熟的摘，所以 cherry-pick 在这里是指精挑细选的意思。To choose something very carefully

例句：

I cherry picked everything for our wedding, because I want to make sure it's perfect.

我对婚礼的每样东西都要精挑细选，希望一切都百分百完美。

除此之外，cherry 还有其他俚语，比如 cherry on the cake 和 a bite of the cherry. 

cherry on the cake 蛋糕上的小樱桃即锦上添花，想想在本来就好看的蛋糕上再加一颗小樱桃，是不是顿时觉得更美味啦。

而 a bite of the cherry 则是指做某事的机会或者时机。

例句：

Having all of you here for my party has really been wonderful, and this gift is the cherry on the cake.

你们都能来参加我的聚会实在是太好了，这份礼物更是锦上添花。

He was eager for a second bite of the cherry.

他渴望能得到第二次机会。

Pineapple

Pineapple  英 [ˈpaɪnæpl]   美 [ˈpaɪnæpl]  n. 菠萝; 凤梨

pineapple 是菠萝的意思，而有个短语 the rough end of the pineapple 则是指“受到不公平的待遇”或者“很倒霉的那个人”。

例句：

He is always getting the rough end of the pineapple.他总是最倒霉的那个。
