COVID-19 Nucleic Acid Testing at BJU
Viral testing to detect the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus, or the virus that causes COVID-19 disease, is done using a Nucleic Acid PCR test. Sometimes referred to as NAT, this test is used to detect active infection. At Beijing United Family Hospital, NAT testing is carried out by our trained medical staff by swabbing the patient's throat. Samples are analyzed by our own BJU Clinical Lab, which has met the standards of the College of American Pathologists.
The sample collection is conducted outside at our BJU COVID-19 testing shelters, which are closely monitored by BJU medical staff and minimize the risk of infection. These are located near Building 1 of our main Hospital on No. 2 Jiangtai Road location. After registering with the nursing team, a sample will be taken, which takes approximately 5 minutes. Results in both Chinese and English are available within 15 hours and can be shared via email or on your WeChat Patient Portal.
A regular (results within 15 hours) test costs 450 RMB. For an urgent test (results within 5-8 hours) the cost is 600 RMB. Additional tests, such as an antibody test or lung CT examination, can also be completed at BJU. Appointments are available from Monday to Sunday, 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
