Wichita Police Officer Arrested for Rape

Eyewitness News has learned that Officer Marlon Woolcock has been released from the Sedgwick County jail.

He was being held there on a $75,000 bond after being accused of rape.

The police department says Woolcock is currently on paid administrative leave.

 

Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter says on February 12, a woman reported to a local hospital that she had been raped. A SANE/SART kit was completed and hospital staff contacted police.

To avoid conflicts, the case was turned over to the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office. After conducting interviews and search warrants, Easter says it was determined that probable caused existed and that a crime had occurred.

Officer Marlon Woolcock, 31, was booked into the Sedgwick County jail on one count of rape. Easter said the incident took place in the 1300 block of N. Ohio while Woolcock was off duty. He says the Woolcock and the victim are acquaintances.

Woolcock is currently on paid administrative leave. Chief Ramsay says the incident reflects poorly on the entire police department. "Unfortunately, policing is sadly unique when one officer engages in misconduct, it reflects poorly on the entire profession," he said."We truly treasure our trusted and close relationship with our community and while we respect everybody's right under due process under the law, I can't help but be very disturbed by the nature of these allegations, and in no way should it reflect on the good people of the Wichita Police Department."

Ramsay and Easter now have agreed to investigate the each other's cases if an officer or deputy is involved. Ramsay says this was done to bring credibility during the investigation process and create transparency within each department.
