美国儿童博物馆协会诚挚推荐

22年前，美国儿童博物馆协会（Association of Children's Museums, 当时的名字是Association of Youth Museums）推出了一本具有里程碑意义的经典书籍Collective Vision：Starting And Sustaining A Children’s Museum。彼时，儿童博物馆正经历着前所未有的高速发展期，该书甫一出现，便受到了来自世界各地儿童博物馆创建团队的热捧。

22年后，儿童博物馆已遍及全球近四十个国家和地区，其影响力已远远超出博物馆界。而在我国，儿童博物馆也正面临着难得的历史发展机遇，许多热心儿童教育的学术界、公益界、商界人士甚至一些个人都表现出对它的极大兴趣。在这样的背景下，该书中文版——《儿童博物馆建设运营之道》应运而生。

When Collective Vision was first published in 1997, it was considered a significant moment in the development of the children’s museum field. Nearly 100 years after the founding of the first children’s museum, the sector had reached a new phase of maturity, moving from a small community of peer leaders sharing practical knowledge to a community of seasoned experts ready to document and share their experiences to help those seeking to establish new children’s museums. In fact, the explosive growth of the children’s museum field in the mid-1990’s coincided with the development and publishing of the original edition of Collective Vision, which remains the central text for those seeking to start new children’s museums in their communities.

儿童博物馆的蓬勃发展不仅局限于它的发源地——美国，还遍及全球各地。正当儿童博物馆运动在美国风起云涌之时，欧洲和中美洲也建立了首批儿童博物馆。在过去25年里，儿童博物馆行业持续发展壮大，在展览和教育项目上不断推陈出新，以求更好地服务儿童，帮助解决复杂的社会问题。如今，大大小小、各式各样的儿童博物馆超过300家，遍布全球六个大洲（除南极洲之外）的近40个国家，而且这个数量还在持续增长。

The explosive growth of children’s museums during this time was not limited to the boundaries of the United States – the birthplace of children’s museums. At this same time, the first children’s museums outside of the United States were established in Europe and Central America – making the children’s museum field a global, rather than national, community. Over the last twenty-five years, the children’s museum field has continued to grow and evolve, pioneering innovative designs and programs for serving the youngest children and tackling complex social issues. Today, there are more than three hundred children’s museums of every shape and size in nearly forty countries, and on every continent except Antarctica. This global expansion continues even to this day.

儿童博物馆在世界各地的迅猛发展促使行业内部不断开拓创新，这一点充分体现在了由中国儿童博物馆教育研究中心编译的《儿童博物馆建设运营之道》一书中。希望这本书能帮助中国观众了解儿童博物馆的教育理念和实践，在促进儿童博物馆在中国发展的同时，也能激发整个行业的新一轮创新实践。

As the children’s museum community continues to evolve, it is the continuing global growth that is expanding the horizons of innovation in the field. This is exemplified in this new edition of Collective Vision, which has been specially curated and translated to inspire the adoption and establishment of children’s museum in China through the leadership of the Children’s Museum Research Center, China. It is my great hope that this foundational text will introduce the philosophies and practices to Chinese audiences, and inspire the next phase of innovation in children’s museum practice around the world.
